OK 12a won't start

My first post. Been really good with carb rebuild and leaky brake cal in getting answers from this site. Many thanks. Now I have an '82 12A that won't start. Drove into parking spot and let sit a couple of days then it won't start. Getting fuel. Checked upper back plug and getting fire there. Motor is dragging down the starter. Where is the OMP located? Could that be the problem? Great site and appreciate any help.

It has nothing to do with the metering oil pump (which is located on the front cover just in front of the exhaust manifold).

Check the two lower (leading) plugs.

Is it just flooded?

Battery fully charged?

I've got an 82 as well. i had a serious "starting problem" but i found a little switch located behind the hood latch release, that when flipped cuts power to the engine, it'll crank, give it fuel, but wont turn over. no matter what.. maybe you should look for it. its about an inch and a half long, sticking downward right behing the hood latch release.
Good luck!

Im not sure if this was put on by the previous owner or if its a factory thing..

Yeah, that sounds like a modification.

As long as you have fuel, and spark, you are probably dealing with flooding. It can be very tough to get a flooded rotary going again.

Clean the plugs. Charge the battery (a fully charged battery is vital). Dump about 2 ounces of 2-cycle oil (or motor oil) down the small barrels of the carb, then try to start it again.

If that doesn't do it, repeat until you get fed up with the process then tow the car to speed to get it started.

Good luck...

It was carbon buildup. Did the MMO/ATM thing and running now better than it has in a long time. Thanks for the assist, again.

Probably not carbon buildup. Likely no compression from severe flooding.
