Hi,

I have a 1983 12a GSL with a starting problem. When I bought the car the last owner has removed the Emissions stuff off of it better known as the rats nest on top of the motor. He said that he was able to start and run the car this way now that i have it the thing wont start. any ideas Yes the carb gets gas and the plugs get spark

 

Gas - Check
Spark - Check
Compression - ?
Vac leak - ?
Timing - ?

Really need a lot more information in order to help you. How long has the car "not been starting"? How was the car running when it did start? Did you do any work right before it quit starting?

 

unlike fuel injected engines that spray gas as it's cranking, a carbed engine needs a few pumps of the pedal to accomplish this. i say this cause i know with all the FI cars no a days, some may not know this aspect of starting a carbed engine.
