Tuning in the north east T&R Racing

Hey, after not being able to make my tune at PFS (due to a tow truck driver that is stupid) and PFS being booked until mid May, I'm looking at alternatives. I came across T&R Racing. Can anyone list their experiences with them? Especially high hp owners.

I go there alot, its like a 2nd home for me. Tony had tune my 3rd gen at 300HP at 10lb boost. My car ran hard, you could ask any one who went to the BBQ in L.I. I know 300hp is nothing, but I seen other people with there car getting tune and seeing like 400+ HP leaving the shop..

i have an autronic sm2 ecu.
i'm very happy with enzo's tuning on my car. 639hp at the wheels, and driven daily.

anthonynyc has a tec3 in his car and is familiar with them. you can contact enzo and ask if he tunes tec ecu's at www.enzo-racing.com

Do you plan on running C16 to make 600HP?

The TEC3 is different from other ECUs. The base map is not saved on the ECU, it is saved on the hard drive of the laptop that was used. Before any changes can be made to your basemap. you will need the bin file. If you don't have that bin file, it will take considerably longer.

Do you have that bin file?

I also know Roan and Enzo very well and they are both good guys. Enzo has also helped me and answers any questions when I am stumped, just as Tony has helped Roan when he needs it. It's one big happy family in NY lol.

Anthony

Thanks Anthony and Speed, it looks like I've got too many posts going haha, I've got one in the single section too.

Anyway, after talking to T&R, Enzo, Victor Research, and leaving a message for KDR, I see that I need to dial back my goals some. 600 may be pushing it too much with my T78, which enzo pointed out. but I also don't want to be crazy conservative, I should absolutely get over 500 with meth and pump (not that anything at this level is truly conservative haha).

I know Tony's setup pretty well, Speed, what are you running to get into the 600's?

Victor Research was great on the phone today, but I haven't seen much of their experience with rotaries, Kahren did the tuning, but I don't think he does anymore, I've requested a info on their high hp rotaries and should have that tonight.

Enzo and Tony were both good on the phone, and recommendations from Speed and Anthony go a long way. Thank you soooo much Anthony for saying you'd go down personally if I go to Tony's, that would be great.

I do have the bin file, and the car runs really well right now, a bit lean because i turned down the injectors after i installed the 720's so that it would idle nicely. So I think its got a really good base to start from.

I really like that Tony already knows the TEC, Enzo said it'd be no problem, and he's probably done one before. The basics of tuning are always the same, but their are tricks for each system, especially at this level.

Good thread. I'm always looking out for good tuners in the NE. Im still thinking about either KDR or Enzo. Im not looking to make power, just reliability. Anyone have any advice based on that? Im getting an M2 medium installed along with dual oil coolers and possibly AI after the tune.

I posted this in the Single section, but because this thread has kind of evolved into some productive discussion regarding tuners in the north east, I thought it deserved a post over here.

Also, could a mod please change the name of the thread to Finding a Tuner in the NE? it would be more helpful when searching for ino, Thanks.

I just spoke with Dave at KDR, definitely left a good first impression. He can squeeze me in soon, and we went through my whole setup, from what I can tell, he was very honest and let me know of a few of his concerns but definitely was not trying to sell me on getting a few other parts from him. The tuners listed above did not try to do that either, but I've run into ones that have before.

The only problem is that he doesn't have dual EGT sensors/gauges there. I have bungs in my header, one for each rotor, but did not install sensors or gauges as I really only wanted it for tuning. I know this is asking a lot, but is there anyone around that has one I could rent for a week? I just don't want to pay 200-300 for something that won't do me much good besides tuning.

If you would consider this and are somewhere between CT and PA, or could get it to KDR on Monday please pm me and let me know how much you want to be compesated for, and if you are worried about getting it back, I don't mind paying you what you paid for it new as a deposit and then being refunded a portion upon the return of the properly working equipment.

T&R and Enzo were also both very helpful and seemed like great guys, but I'm leaning toward KDR now.

You mentioned you were into drag racing, when you get the car tuned by Dave, do you plan on coming to the May 2nd event at Etown and racing?

Anthony

I'd really like to come to Etown, and it looks like KDR can do it in time. But I don't think I'd race the car, its a big event and I've never raced such a high powered car, so I want to take my time and get used to it.

Tony at T&R had a cancellation and was going to squeeze me in, the customer then was able to get his car there in time so Tony had to honor that, which is perfectly fine with me, I'd hope for the same treatment if I was already a customer. That is the reason why the car is not going to T&R. Tony was a bunch of help and invited me to the pits at the Etown meet, so I'd like to check that out with or without my car, my decision to go with KDR is not because I don't like T&R, I'm sure Tony would have done a great job.

But this also doesn't take away from the fact that I was very very impressed with Dave at KDR, seems like its top notch over there.

You'll be fine with Enzo. If you have a single turbo 7 looking to make over 500rwhp, your better off staying away from KDR. They are good for stock twin cars.

Arrow ne tuners

for some time ive been looking for a dependable and honest tuner around my way , we need more people to post their individual experiences with places they have visited , its hard to trust anyone , dealt with lots of not so honest people that being said this week had a chance to meet tony from t & R , took my car there for some major work , electrical basket case !!! long story short car ran better after than when i brought it in ,he was a pro's pro and ive got nothing but complements how this guy conducts business !! i would recommend this place for any rx7 rotor head , he also works on other cars but there is always bout 10 rx 7 's at his shop so its very busy ...

Im one of Tony's customer for like 3 years. Every time I go in there he has alot of freaking cars there... But he always find a time to help me out with my car... or any customers car. People trash talk about TNR, some reason is because of time. They have to understand working on 5 to 10 cars a day, that there car wont be ready on time. But they have to see the quality that tony does on the car. When i bring my car for small stuff, Tony will add more things to the car that I never ask to do but he will do it with no charge. That the type of Person tony is, He will give you advise about what you will need to run your car hard but at the same time safe. I brought my 3rd gen in 2006 with 70,000+ automatic. TNR did the manual swap. Tony set up my car so good that I abuse the car. Living In Rochester and drving the RX7 to NYC is a 6 hour drive I did it for 3 years and done alot of street racing. MY motor didnt blow, just my coolant seal. I just did a rebuild. And once I break in the motor Tony is saying that I will be seeing 450 or more at the wheel.. Enough for the street.

I personally like TnR. I had problems getting my car started after I bought it and anytime I called they always answered my questions. After speaking with them, I finally got the car started and brought it down to them with no notice. No bitching, complaining or excuses they took my car in and worked on it as soon as they can. A++ for TnR.

Anthony this is chris with the GT42R I hope to be getting tuned next week!

Thanks for all the comments, due to everyone's busy schedules, I'm just going with the original plan with PFS. I've spoken with them the most, and they have a great rep. They can't get me in until May 18th but I think it will be worth it. The other tuners mentioned all seem great, Tony at T&R and Dave at KDR both spent a good about of time with me on the phone and seem like great guys. I never got back to Enzo after our first call just due to my own work schedule, so I'm sure he would have been great too from what I've heard.

Synaptic just said they were booked for a while in an email so I never had a detailed convo with them. And Victor Research never gave me the info I requested on their experience with RX-7s so I didn't pursue them any further.

Well thats all 6 tuners in the NE haha, and the one I'm going to is in Maryland, haha so much for convenience.
