Thumbs up Support Your Fellow RX7 Owners @ Summit Point....

.........on Tuesday May 3rd when the One Lap of America rolls into town to compete on the new Shenandoah Circuit at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia!! There will be some very exotic machinery on hand for this event, as the only rule in One Lap is that there are no rules.

Chris Regan and Dave Henning are leaving for Indianapolis Raceway Park this afternoon, where the competition begins. I attended the Rotary Revolution event there this past weekend, and have given them a briefing on the track conditions at that facility. Here is the skinny as of my conversation this morning with Dave;

If the rules have not changed, all participants run the designated circuit (in this case, the Shenandoah) for four laps per "event". There will be two seperate events at Summit Point. The first one begins at 8am, with the second one taking place around Noon. The participants then drive to Hagerstown, Maryland for a drag race there (who wants to watch guys running around in dresses and heels?). Afterwards, they will drive through the evening to VIR, where they will again run two events on Wednesday the 4th.

In the past, participants have run in an order based on their car numbers, which in theory represented their "qualifying" position for the event. Team "DC Mazda Club" is car #56, and will be called to run 56th in the field for each event. They will run one recon out lap, two laps that count for time, and one as a cool down lap. Then they pack up and drive to the next venue.

All of the entries may very well be done by 2-2:30pm at Summit Point. Those who are interested in following their progress should consult either the DCRX7Club.com site or the onelapofamerica.com site for specifics. If the Mazda Club Secretary has time, we should have a link on the MSCW site with information.

Team DC Mazda Club will also be in cell phone contact with the Mazda Club Officers on a daily basis, and plan on calling us from VIR or other points south while we are having our monthly meeting Wedsnesday evening to give us a live update via cell phone. A few of the Club's members should have speaker phone capability.

One of our digital camcorders will also be at Summit Point to shoot video from the event for us to watch during Wednesday's meeting, assuming we have access to our AV equipment. I'm sure the guys would appreciate seeing a good number of fellow Mazda enthusiasts while they are on the road competing in the week-long event.
