NJ Vehicle Inspection

Anybody know what all is inspected with NJ inspections? Last time I went with my 1986 FC GXL, I had no problems, but since then my windshield wiper switch has developed "personality" and may need a bump from your hand to get them to start or stop, and the blower motor for heat/ac has stopped working.

I'm wondering if anyone has a list of what is checked and what they can fail you for, or maybe just a link to somewhere on the web that lists it in detail.

As another thing, last time I went, they didn't inspect emissions on my car except for visual. On the sheet it said "Exempt-Rotary".. this seemed odd to me. I have no reason to expect my emissions to fail, it passed 3 years ago in another state, but just curious.

Also, I'm in the process of getting some parts for the wipers and the blower motor, but I don't want to wait until I get them and have time to install them.. I want to get inspected soon.

Many thanks..

I should have mentioned that I have already searched that site and can't find anything resembling a checklist of what is checked for the safety inspection, nor does it mention anything about a rotary engine exemption from emissions testing (that I found, anyway).

If you can find something on that site that addresses either issue, I'd really appreciate it if you could provide a direct link to the page with the information.

{edit} the closest I could find was this page: http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/cleanair/...rocedures.html
He or she then checks the car’s safety features, which include the headlights, taillights, tires, horn, windshield wipers and turn signals.
I'm looking for something more exhaustive and definitive than that.. specifically whether they can fail me for not having defroster (because blower motor is not working right now).. or from some personal knowledge or experience with the issue..{/edit}

I should also take this chance to mention that I intend to go to a State Inspection Facility, unless there's a good reason not to..

Thanks..

They will check the wipers to see if they function. Not the blower motor. At least they've never checked the blower motor in any of my cars. The car needs to pass the emission test also. Idle and at speed. Just had my S5 TII inspected in March.
Lights, horn, gas cap, exhaust, converter, exhaust system for leaks, signal lights, glass, underhood inspection, e brake, brake equlization, tires, front suspension for any loose parts, also front vibration test to check struts. I think that's it.

thanks TurboNut, looks like I will look to the wipers but don't have to flail to get the blower motor done.

I wonder why they didn't do an emissions check on it last time.. oh well..

I'm not too worried about the rest of the stuff.

thanks guys.
