In a rut.

Im 19, have a Jspec Probe Gt, with engine swap, etc , lots of mods , yea yea yea, i blew that engine. the car is worth nothin now. (just the fd rims i have are worth sumthin)

im gonna keep it as a project car / extra car that i can slap the dealer plates onto.

I just got a job as a waiter at PF Changs rest. which is supposed to bring me a lot of money, hopefully. i moved there from Chase bank, which is hard long hours for less pay than a waiter.

Anyway, The Rx7 has been my dream car ever since I was 7 or 8 back when she first came out. ( enter- movie - "Fast getaway and #2) remember! the red fd!

I was going to buy one until i found out about the Audi a4. (B5 1997-2001)This thing just swept me off my feet (modded versions)

Very appealing , quattro, luxurious, and decently quick w/ a few upgrades- and a new and upcoming aftermarket support.

Im a car dealer. I can get the A4 For about 8-9k (2000) w/ decent mileage. But, the Fd's at the auction are still upward of 9k. One just went for 9100 and was labeled above average condition. The problem is that they are hard to find at the dealers auctions and i cant afford them retail price. (same w/ the audi)

id aim for a 94 bc minor adjustments were made to them.

Maintenance

A4
- over 60k- Needs new timing belt! (600 w/ installation)
-needs new control arms (200 + install)
-needs synthetic ( i was goin for it anyway)
-needs to run 93 (would do it anyway , same w/ fd)
-stock 150hp , hahahaa chip- 200hp ($300)
k04 turbo 240 awhp -- t3 t4 w/ custom software 268 awhp.

Rx7

- shitting bricks when you first get it ! dont know whats gonna go!
- needs silicone vac lines (2-300)
- leaks
- inspection
- realiability???? how many rotaries broke down??? / blown???
- bad turbos?

if im missing any issues on the fd please fill me in

both problematic cars (yes from experience)

i would choose the FD only cause it looks better and the styling wont get outdated anytime soon..plus its more fun, more responsive to mods..

you have another car to daily drive right?

yeah man we alwyas have POS's lyin around here.

id like to keep the probe for that.

Then again, my friends dont want me 2 get the fd cause i cant drive thier fat asses around.

o ok cool..as long as you have a reliable daily driver, you are ok..

with weather conditions (rain, snow, ice etc etc ) and fd down time, you'll need that daily driver..

and screw what your friends say, dont they have cars? lol i think they'll be jealous cause your car will look hotter than theirs..

the only fat asses you should be driving around are on sexy *** girls..

what down time have you had? and i dont have a daily driver bc i dropped 2 valves on my Ze.....

well thats to bad for them if they cant drive..lol how old are they? or is it they just dont own cars? i refuse to give any rides to anyone unless either they need it in an emergency or if its like one person..no like 3 people in my ****..and the fd, only bitches ride shotty in there..

and i didnt really have any down time except when my clutch went bad and that was because the owner before me installed it wrong, there was nothing wrong with the clutch itself..my car has been running excellent in the 2 years of ownership..and i dont drive my car in the rain or snow/winter so thats why my daily driver comes in handy..

yes im from the heights, not near duncan though, its kinda bad there..more towards the jersey city/union city borderline..i work in union city..

so they need me , plus my other boy having a 350z doesnt help either ///// i cant wait to beat on himmmmm....

i always have an extra car, we are car dealers. but dont make much money, bc its a 2nd job for my father and i help out when i can.

A stock FD isn't going to "beat on"a 350Z. They're not THAT slow. Start saving for your single conversion now.

well he doesnt need to go single just to beat a 350z..im not sure what he's looking actually..to just beat his friend or to cream him..

basic bolt ons will surely be enough to beat a 350z pretty good..

but come to think of it, if you're getting an fd just to beat your friends car or to look cool, dont get one cause there are more downs than ups in owning an fd..

No man , haha id be gettin a Fd to beat a lot more cars than a 350. (and he always short shifts his 350, believe me, their torque band does not run out up to redline.)

But im almost done w/ racing and that scene. Ive been doin it for 2 years and seen enough good and bad things.

A jspec probe is a ford probe (which bites off your fd look) that has a Mazda Ms8 (japan's mx6) engine. 200 bhp, +/-200 tq Its kinda like a ricy "gsr" swap for a civic, but its a very strong engine 10:1 compression ratio. but watch out for these turbo'd...

Very strong, yet i dropped a valve or two in it .... hmm but ill see whats exactly wrong w/ it soon.

I dont usually beat on my cars, maybe gun it here or there.

I screwed up my engine w/ 5 ppl in the car accelerating in first gear up to 5k.

I did not do it racing, and i never pushed the car past 7200 rpm , which is THE limit for that engine.

if you don't plan on spending alot of money on your fd, i'd go with the audi. **** it .....fuudge both cars. get something more reliable at 19.

Basically, a 350z runs a low 14 sec quarter mile stock, and a stock FD in good shape runs a little quicker. He alternately mentioned "ripping" and "beating on" his buddy's car. I assumed he would want to win any race by more than a car length... especially considering anyone in the next lane that's only a car length behind can't even be seen in the FD's mirrors

DUDE don't get an AUDI..

If you get a used Audi, you better pray that it has an extended warranty.
and you THROUGHLY THROUGHLY check that thing out top to bottom.
Alot of LEMON audi's out there.. MANY.. If you get the wrong one.
you'll have a Nighmare.

Not only that. The older AUDI's.. LOOK 20years old.. They look so outdated.
boarder line UGLY.. compared to the new models.

In an Audi. You won't get any respect from anyone. the BMW/BENZ crowd
gonna look at you like a 2nd class citizen.

RX7 looks timelesss
Even if your RX7 is a slow POS. people will still wonder if
its a 10 second beast. that many FD owners out there have.
and will put fear into alot of imports and domestic.

the FD is only a 2 seater. PERFECT Excuse NOT TO DRIVE, when you go out with
your buddies.. worked like a charm in my party days...

The same could be said as far as reliability and extended warranties for an rx-7. I have a 2000 audi s4 and 93 rx-7, they can both be problematic and expensive to fix if you don't do it yourself and expect a perfect car.

Its also B.S. about Audi's not getting respect from anyone. For $700 I can chip the S4 to bring it up to 300hp and 350lbs/ft of torque which should equal about the power to weight ratio of a stock rx-7. Add in downpipes and an exhaust and my guess is its even or faster than a seven, at least in a straight-line. I've seen many S4's (including Avants) at the track keeping up with the vettes, porsches, and m3's.

Having said that, my audi won't touch a track because I much prefer driving the rx-7.

yeah theres this guy that comes to my job and he was like to me, "hey thats your rx7 in the parking lot right?" and im like yeah how did you know..and he said o you look like a kid that would drive one of those cars, what year is it? like 2000? and im like LOL nah its a 93..his face was like damn 93!!!??

he said the car looks like a japanese porsche and i couldnt stop smiling cause i love porsche to death..prob like the only worthy german car IMHO...he was asking me what i got done and who and what needs to be replaced and he was writing it down cause he said he wants to get one..i thought it was pretty cool..

there isnt any day where i go out and no one asks about my car or compliments it..i always see people pace me on the street or some kid who gives a thumbs up or something..

i remember coming back from the track 3 weeks ago, i was with my buddies and as we approached the turnpike, it was clear as hell and he was in front of me..i punched it in 3rd (you fd guys know about our 3rd gear and how strong it is )..anyway, i punched it and go to the left lane as soon as the off ramp was done..i passed him like he was standing still..7500rpm and i shift into 4th and accelerated still..i looked at the speedo and i was already doing 110..i was like o ****, slow down man..i looked in the rearview and i see a white looking car, kinda like a taurus..and im like holy ****, ******* 5-0..i immediately pretend i did nothing wrong and hit the brakes while switching to the middle lane..im doing 75mph now and the car comes up next to mine...i look to the left and all i see is a white crown vic with black *** tints. the passenger window rolls down and some white kid from the driver seat says, "hey man, that **** is ******* hot, your car is too much for these streets and he gave a thumbs up..

i was like, hehe but still nervous cause i really thought it was an undercover cop..i guess he must have saw me pass my friend like nothing..

it made my day

ironically a cliche of audi owners are " wannabe bmw/benz owners penny pinching
and bought a Audi" an over priced VW.

I have a buddy that has a Audi something turbo.
Its actually funny, he has modded it and it seems pretty funny.
got a chip exhaust this and that, intercooler and etc..
and guess what?? after all that.. Its still slow.

Thats like saying people who own FDs are wannabe Supra owners, simply not true. People buy different cars for different reasons, I would rather an AWD audi over a benz or a bimmer of comparable class. The author of the thread isnt asking for which car is faster, I think thats just common sense.

I just took a ride to the store in the 05 A4 in pouring rain. Its nice still being able to go 10 over and floor it through corners in the wet sometimes.

hey, did you already make a thread on this?...i rememebr that avatar of yours and the audi A4 1.8t....oh yeah have u thought about the BMW E36 M3s? take a good look at those too, pretty damn sexy looking with angle eyes and theyre usually around 12000-14000 for a good condition one. its a pretty good daily driver also, real quick, handles GREAT.

DOOD yeah your right about puttin miles on the car and bummin your friends around, perfect excuse. I really hated it. perfect excuse ,(my buddy uses that excuse w/ his 350z) good point, its better than havin guys drinkin in the back and gettin you in trouble.
