State Inspection---no more emissions!
When does this go into effect? There's a guy in Jersey who posted in the 2nd Gen Specific section that blew his motor, according to him, they had him pull over into a mobile inspection station, which is what Cali is already doing... This blows...

As of 1/1/11 there is no more sniff test for anything older than 95 or OBD1 cars so from now on our inspections(metro area) are like upstate NY inspections. So as long as we pass safety were good!

Oddly, just last year I got my car to pass emissions using a cat and air pump. It did it in the glory if misfires and running pig rich. So.. it's doable, but who cares now!?
Because of this thread, i went hunting around on the NY DMV site. I found this interesting section. It doesnt have any information about OBD1 emissions testing. Time to rejoice here in NY

I heard about this before january and well now that its january i got my truck to pass a inspection. It was expired for 3 months, glad i didnt get any tickets.
One thing that really annoys me is that i own a 86 rx7. I was so stoked for 2011 because my car would be 25 years old, classic and emissions exempt. But now they changed the law the same year my car would finally be legal without a cat. Meh!

I believe they still check for the emissions equipment. I'd imagine they are looking for a cat and air pump really. Can't see many people being **** about an old mazda, but you never know...
Here in upstate (syracuse) most places just do visual checks like lights, turn signals, ya know the normal stuff and 90% of the places that see its an 95 or older they wont even lift the hood brought in a 500hp acura integra couple years back that was a 95 huge front mount and didn't even ask just knew it was a 95 and it'd pass leagally so around here 95 and older are golden and price is dramaically up on those cars that will pass. Normal honda guys around me will up prices 500 to 1500 soley because of the year. And they get it every single time! And being on of three rx7s in all of syracuse that I know of and owning another makes inspections much much nicer one less thing to worry about!
+1 on upstate not caring here in Jordan like 5 min from Syracuse i work at a place that could care less if anything on my car worked.. when i got the car horn didn't work tires were bald. i just had it on the lift in the 1 shop putting on a gasket and he was like ok ima inspect it didn't care what was wrong with it. can't wait for taxes then time for a swap. hey reynolds wanna help? lol then there can be 4 rx7's on weekends.
