NJ RX7 Mechanic with EXPERIENCE needed

If u are a highly talented RX7 mechanic anywhere near Union or Morris County NJ can you get in touch with me? Honesty and integrity a must. I need a trustworthy person to help me solve a problem with my RX7. This is for a second generation 1990 Manual RX7 GXL that has a starting problem. The starter was just replaced by a close friend of mine and after much troubleshooting it was determined that the clutch and clutch switch are just fine and the problem MOST LIKELY is between the ignition key switch and clutch switch. I have the steering column exposed to see the cylinder and wires going toward the firewall. Any more work will require a VERY experienced RX7 mechanic to take a look with a multimeter that knows the ins and outs of the electrical system and how to carefully and knowingly trace the issue from the ignition switch area to the clutch switch. I would need your phone number and name if you would be so kind. Thanks. David

So far NO one has replied that is in a commutable distance from the Morristown/Summit area of New Jersey that knows the electrical and mechanical system of a 1990 Mazda RX-7 GXL that can help. If u know anyone that can help, PLEASE reply.

The "problem" with rx-7's is that the specialists are few and far between. You can either learn to do the work yourself, settle for a generalist, or be willing to travel to have work done properly.

I'll be towing my FD from around Washington DC out to a shop in California later this month to have some specialized work done. How badly do you want your stuff done correctly?

That being said, have you reached out to IRP yet? They're in NJ and focus on rotaries.

Hi David. I saw your thread about needing a flatbed to move the car. Do you have a friend or family member with AAA? My friend let me use his account to tow my '79 from PA to NJ and they didn't ask any questions about ownership or anything like that. I've been going to Jim at JPR Imports for about 15 years now. He's in Blackwood, NJ, and has done more work for me than I care to type out right now on three different cars... Re-wired my '79, rebuilt/ported engines, engine/trans swap, brake swap, etc. Can't say enough good about him.

Hi rxtuner79,
. Thanks for the kind reply. The first RX7 I bought new was a 1979 red with black interior and I remember it did not have power steering or the steering was so hard!! Awesome car! Loved that first one!!! I went on to a 1985 then a 1986 before buying a 1990 new red with black leather which I retain till this day!
I must say....Jim is a dream come true.....unbelievable person! Seems to know this car like no one I have ever dealt with so far!
Will keep u posted on what I do and where I get.
Best,
. David

Glad to hear it may work out for you. If you end up going to JPR then you might see my red with black interior '79 with no power steering. I haven't driven it in about 10 years so I'm extremely lucky to have Jim getting it back on the road. I'm sure he'll take good care of you. Keep me updated!

John

+1 for Jim! He's a household name in the rotary community. If there is anyone that can get you right, its definitely Jim.

There is no click click sound left! You turn the key.....lights go on and anything electrical works, BUT nothing happens. No cranking at all. Nothing. A new starter was installed that is connected correctly and it works as the mechanic showed me it was operating.
