Reputable Va Car Tuners
Reputable Va Car Tuners
I am searching for a tuner that can dyno or road tune my 95 FD with all its upgrades, this includes tuning of my Apexi Power FC, with a good reputation for tuning in Virginia (Nothern Virginia by preference)
I have heard that atlantic motorsports is a very good tuner, but are they good with FD's?

Stick w/ Ray @ PFS for everything. Not just tuning, but troubleshooting, installs, repair, etc. He's one of the most experienced and talented FD mechanics not only in the area, but I'd venture to say in the US. That's what you get when you've been working on FD's for over a decade..
http://www.pfsupercars.com/Oh and you HAVE to use the PFC to tune the FD...you can't tune it w/o using the ECU

PS: If you go to ANYONE who isn't a rotary specialist for tuning, you're either a) ensuring that your motor WILL blow, b/c rotaries are MUCH more sensitive than pistons when it comes to tuning (I can't tell you how many ppl have told me of so and so famous piston motor tuner blew their motor on the dyno), or 2) You're wasting your money b/c they will be tuning SO conservatively, it's gonna run incredibly rich for them to avoid blowing it (due to their lack of experience w/ rotaries), in which case it's not really a tune anyway

PPS: Please search prior to posting such threads. This question has been asked probably 20,000 times now

Ray Wilson of PF Supercars is the number one guy for 3rd gen work above all others in MD/NOVA/DC/PA/NY/NJ hands down.
Everyone else can get in line and hope to be half as talented. Seriously. Who else has more experience? No one. He is honest and fair to boot which is rare in the world of tuning and turning wrenches. There are a ton of wannabees but he is the real deal.

Ray Wilson like everybody else has said. He not only tunes RX-7's, but Lexus's, and Supra's to boot! That is talent right there! If I had a car for tuning, or had a problem with an RX-7, I would take it directly to him, or look to him first before anybody else.

Hold on PFS crew. Yes Ray is a good tech, but the shop looked like hell when I visited. I couldn’t see the floor so much **** was on it. I would have been concerned leaving my car. They need to address that.
The old PFS was like a clean lab at NASA. I do think the shops upkeep and how organized says allot about the people that run it.
At PFS I heard Ray doesn’t likes his customers to be present when he dynos your car. That’s weird
But then again you have limited choices, PFS, KDR, Reactive Racing and PBC
But my best advice is visiting all the shops before you take your car to them. Get a feel for the type of work they can do and the communication between you and the tech.
Hell you will probably go to PFS, hit it off with Ray and your set. I just see a lot of new people (like I used to be) that take advice but didn’t complete the research. The crew above is all good guys and obviously happy with Rays work.
For what its worth the best tune I ever had was from Reactive racing, but Demetrious is a busy man.
Best of luck!
Good luck and all of these guys can do a good tune on your PFC

I've heard *several* times over that KDR isn't exactly skilled in tuning. PBC has a tuner? That's news to me. They're still learning their way around the FD (but are otherwise a great shop). Dee...good luck trying to get ahold of him. I'm not biasd toward Ray...just very confident.

I can tell you from my experience I've had been to almost every "so called" expert tuner around and hands down Ray is the best I've seen. Now anyone can load a map and verify their A/F ratio's, but tuning from scratch is a different story. I wish anyone luck who can find anyone else out there thats as good, not cocky(ie..GOD complex), and honest.

Ok your worried about leaving your car at a highly recommended and nationally recognized shop because its a little messy but your fine with paying someone who is not insured to tune your car in their home garage.
Yea that makes a ton of sense.
As far as your comment about the dyno ray specifically had a window put in the office so customers could see their cars on the dyno. Maybe your just a pain in the *** and he doesn't want you there.

Now now guys...no need to take it personally lol. The guy's just stating his opinion, and he's entitled to it, although he didn't put up any *real* reasons not to go to Ray, or any *real* alternatives for that matter...

I would have posted something, but it's been covered already.
