Question For NJ Residents

Hey, I've got a question guys on cops issuing tickets. For a moving violation, does a cop have to issue you the ticket in person for it to count?? Like if I had a moving violation, and the cop was there but did not pull me over, can he still send me a ticket in the mail??? Does he have to issue the ticket at the time of the violation for it to count?? Thanks guys..

He MUST issue a moving violation at the time of the actual violation, only parking and/or equipment violations may be given while a the vehicle is present w/o a driver.

^^Agreed

For instance, you could be doing 160mph down a highway and a trooper sees you from the otherside of that highway and by some luck, he already knows who you are (plate number, etc), he cant just issue you a ticket saying, Hey i saw you going at a tremendous rate of speed yesterday so im gonna give you a big ticket". No he has to actually pull you over and give you that ticket.

Sorry to say guys, but the police do not need to issue a ticket at the time of the violation. How about cameras that record your license number for various moving offenses? Tickets are issued after the infraction.

Cameras and officers have different rules. This is also the inherent problem and contreversey with the camera cops.....

The only time officers can usally issue a moving violation after the fact is after an accident.

Exactly

EZpass is another thing, some speed cameras are another thing too with different laws in conjunction with that.

Failure to use turn signals or running a light or speeding doesnt apply to this, the cop HAS to issue that ticket the moment after the violation (technically speaking).

We could beat this to death as he didn't state what the violation might be, and if the police were in a car or standing on a corner, but if an officer was standing on a corner and you passed a stopped school bus with the lights on, you'd surely get a summons after the fact.

If he did not pull you over, how did he get your info to send you a ticket? If it was a camera ticket, did they send you a picture of you commiting the violation? If none of these apply, I don't see how this will stand up in court. No evidence. Hey, send them a picture of your money!!
