OT - Girlfriend moving to Maine - Need info, car etc..

Hi all.

My Girlfriend is moving to Maine for a year. She (-and I) would really appreciate some help regarding a few issues.

She needs a car once she gets over there. She's got a Mazda B2000 pickup here at home, and she would like to have a B-series again if possible. If you have any good source for them in Maine, please let us know. If you have one for sale - even better.

Is there any possibility/point in taking a car from Canada? She wants a Miata Mazdaspeed turbo to bring home, and the Canadians have more similarities to to euro-spec than the US one. (KM on the speedo for instance). Is it a hassle to import a car from Canada? Is it expensive to register in the US?

About B-series pickups. Were they ever delivered with Turbodiesel in the US?

Hope you can stand all of my OT questions. For your info, she's a rotary nut too, but we already have 6 rotaries in "the family".

Thanks in advance

Hi.

Thanks for your post.

I know you are in NH and Marie is going to Maine, Waterville. But do you know anything about importing cars from Canada?

Is it common for US citizens to import from Canada, or is it strictly forbidden to do so?

Looking forward to your posts.

Ciao

There's a B-Series down the street from me in RI, a little ways from Maine, but if it's a last resort.

Also, importing cars from Canada's pretty easy.

According to NHTSA import eligibility list, the Mazda -- MX-5 Miata (LHD) -- 1990-1993 is allowed in from anywhere.

According to Canadian Import Rules, the vehicle must be under 25 years old and follow all applicable Federal motor safety rules, and there are some procedural actions you have to take.

Good luck.

I've seen a few B2000's on the local craigslists... where in Maine will she be? Is having that particular pickup really that necessary for what she will be doing? While I understand how attached one can get to a particular car (I will own a 94 Si always and forever ), if I were to move to a foreign country for only a year, I wouldn't be that fussy over what my temporary car would be. My only stipulation would be that it would have a manual tranny and be reliable. She would be buying an older vehicle with an unknown history and with no trusted mechanics to help her. Even if she does her own work on her Mazda, there is still the amount of her time and money spend on parts to get it running the way she will want it to be. And by the time it's perfect, it will time for her to return home.
