Cool Old-time member needs the Club…again!

I am finally back. Well, honestly I have always been lurking every now and then just too caught up with life to post. I know an excuse is still an excuse. Since I have been gone for SOO long I feel I should provide a little background to my rotary story!

Sick back and relax and take a stroll with me back two decades or so when I got My R2 (you see what I did there?)…Non-readers proceed to the last paragraph for my request, thanks!

The new car smell and the performance was staggering!! Let’s not forget how timeless this car was and still remains. I enjoyed the power and looks for a while. Well as time went by and I wanted more power (stop judging me). I don’t want to dig up ANCIENT and by ANCIENT I mean Triceratops ancient! But suffice it to say I was screwed royally by a certain company. Luckily I was able to get some form of vindication by being a witness for a fellow RX7 club member (your car looks AWESOME by the way) against the same punkA company. Pay back is a *&^%$!! Anyway look it up if you want the details. The car’s engine was toast! So I look on the forum and as usual you guys do me a solid and suggest KDR. I took it to them and they hooked me up big time. The car drove awesome for a long while! Well until, I had an unfortunate run in with a Viper in Mexico. I won the race but damn it lost another engine. Back to KDR fixed my issues and everything was fine. Until yet another race lead me to an early exit. I took the car up to a shop in Ohio and waited and waited and waited. Well, they finally got done only for me to arrive to them not being done with tuning so I had to wait and wait AND WAIT. Drove home and within a week the car would not start and that is where we left my rotary story….the car has been sitting for 4+ years collecting dust and collecting my hatred, that is until I see my fellow RX7ers out there putting in work. Seeing that makes me happy and fall back in love with the diva car! But, remembering all the ups and downs with MY R2 (okay you have to see what I did there) I had a hankering to get another car.

Now, on my long and arduous path I had several other cars that while awesome in their own right did not find themselves the recipient of my garage space for too long. Two overweight but still fun Supras, a great handling S2000 and an Evo that is arguably the best sports car DD there is if you have a family. But, with the new double clutch hype and talk I wanted to see what it was all about AND I love the performance of the GTR, so the wife said go for it. Well, I begin to really get into the GTR scene and start doing some serious lurking on the forum. Just when I was about to join and start asking the ultimate question, “Should I buy this one or that one?”. My wife asked what was I going to do with the RX7. The RX7, what the heck was that? Oh yeah, that red thing collecting dust and probably mouse droppings in the garage. So, I went into the garage to look at it. Dusty and neglected. The first thing I thought was…damn I miss this car! So, change of plans. Why buy a car when I have yet to sort out the one I have. So the plan. Fix the 7 and see if that itch will be scratched. If not, well then, GTRLife here I come…

So, I come back to where it all started! It feels like home. And since I have been gone for so long, please help a fellow family member out. Where can I take my dusty car to get fixed! All of the sticky tuner and shop threads are rather old and I want recent information! I don’t want ANY issues so please only places that do EXCELLENT work. Shop must be somewhat close to the DC area. Thanks in advance …and it feels good to be home.

Have a look at IRPerformance in central NJ. Ihor, the owner is active on here.

Thank you FourtyOunce. I will start researching them and probably will reach out to them by the end of the month. I am still not sure which way I should go...stay 13B and be scared
of another blown engine, go V8 and don't look back, or go all Holy grail and go 20B. Money will be a factor, but wow I would really like to drive the car without too much worry of
is that sound going to cost me another 4 grand. Any thoughts? Here are a few pics of the neglected beast...

IRP will set you straight with a properly built motor and tune.

If you are thinking about selling the car as it is, let me know ...

I've done both and I'm back in a rotary to give it another shot. Seems water/meth injection has done wonders to make these motors stay together.
I've been working with Ihor from IR Performance and he is setting me up with a more modern fuel system, water meth injection and some other advanced items that should put me on my way to a more reliable 400+ rwhp.

Best of luck! I could never get the FD out of my blood either!

Thanks for love everyone! It feels good!! I will follow-up with each suggestion soon.

As usual something ALWAYS seems to occur to slow down the RX-7 movement. So keep in mind my car has been dead for OVER 4 years!! So, the wife and I, ok ok, the wife wanted to redo the half bath downstairs (it was in a bad state so it was needed). Done, but the sink won't drain for some reason! No problem something stuck get a plumber over here and get it cleaned out and move on, right?! WRONG! The damn feed pipe to the main drain is clogged and needs to be removed. Easy enough, right?! WRONG! The damn pipe is embedded in concrete beneath the same floor we just redid!!! Double damn! Old freaking house!!!! The funny thing, is this seems to ALWAYS happen like clockwork. As soon as I get ready to get the 7 done, something seems to say "sorry buddy, not now"! I mean over the past 4+ years it NEVER fails to happen. That is why I sometimes say FORGET it and sale the damn thing and move the hell on to something else. But as usual I see a RX-7 that looks awesome and patience wins out....in this case the sig pic of our own admin GoodfellaFD3S did the trick!!

ZoomZoom you are correct, I must have a few more RX7 blood platelets swimming in there...LOL! When you say both, do you mean a V8 conversion?

Irp or smg. I have heard great things about both. I wouldn't consider any others.
