i've never been there and i'm guessing i would play it by ear to determine if i would come back on sunday and drive all day OR participate on sunday activities and start driving sunday night stop mid way to sleep and continue driving monday morning.

have you been there?

This will be my fourth year going. I would suggest leaving early Thursday. It is a 13hr drive if you only stop for gas and food. There is tons of stuff going on on Friday. Talk to mobeoner or fiz-e, maybe they can go with you if they decide to not be lazy and go.

I will be leaving early Wednesday. Prob like 5am

If you leave at the crack of dawn Thursday, you won't arrive until midnight or later that day anyway. Then you sleep, and *boom* it's Friday bitches

Trust the veteran DGRR peeps, we won't steer you wrong

Yes it is definitely worth it to get there on Thursday so you can be there Friday morning.

There is plenty to do and people to talk to, or you can just take a trip to the dam or the dragon.

^This. Benefit is biker & slowpoke traffic on the Dragon and surrounding roads is much lighter on Fridays than it is on Sat/Sun, so Friday is almost always the best driving day.

This will be my 4th year at DGRR. Travel down from northeast corner of MD, if I go flat out (stopping only when necessary for gas/food/**** & stretch breaks), it takes me a good 10 hours behind the wheel. Normally leave my house around 0630, beat the worst of the Baltimore rush hour traffic around the I-95/695 beltway stretch and after that it's an easy drive. In past years, met up with a NE caravan on I-81 near the VA border, we all made it to the lodge for dinner around 7PM.

I also plan on attending the event this year. This will be my 1st time going down there and would rather cruise down there with a group. Do you guys travel on Interstate 81 or Interstate 95?

100% worth getting there on thursday.

Last year was the first time we left wednesday and took our time getting there thursday evening. It was MUCH MUCH more enjoyable time getting there thursday to unwind and have a good night rest in a BED (rather then fixed bucket seats....)

Plus, its so much more fun being full rested making fun of the fools who did the overnight crazy long drives to arrive friday afternoon

ive done it, twice? in a whole shot to get there friday evening. and honestly, getting there after a 13 hr drive hallucinating off of 5 hour energies is not fun. I'll be leaving wednesday again.

If u plan to work monday, yuo need to leave before noon sunday...

Its well worth the trip. if you like rotaries and checking out an array of car it will be a blast. its nice to get out of the "local" scene of rotaries you always see and see something different.

list of activities...
its basically
fri-meet and great
sat- car show? dam picture, dragaon, raffle?
sun- skyline drive?

pretty much a huge hang out party. there is ALWAYS people at the "main location" (forgot what its called... main lodge? office?) to talk to and socialize

the route is not set on stone as of yet, there's still some time to adjust for the guys that actually want to roll together.

The people there are boring so bring a friend lol. The only people who partied or went and did anything outside of the lodge were all from the NYC/NJ area. Everyone else did absolutely nothing.

Excuse us if we'd rather not be hungover as we fly around the mountain pass at breakneck speed

I'd rather socialize and hang out with rotorheads that I only see once a year (at DGRR) then go gambling or boozing..... I can do that any other weekend

I understand that but they could at least have a beer and talk about something other than the cars they talk about on the forum all day lol. I was going there to get to know the people behind the cars also. The roads were well worth the trip though.

OP you definitely should leave when these guys are telling you to. Its a really long, really rough trip (depending how tall you are and how well you fit in the car) and you'll be knocking out as soon as you get there.
