Moving to NYC! Suggestions on where to live?

Thanks for the help everyone. Not having much luck with CL, still can't find a place and I am leaving for NYC Thursday. Might be a bit of a problem if I don't find something asap, maybe I will just wing it. Problem is everyone wants to meet me before giving me the room but I can't since I am in FL for the moment, I might have something lined up on Amsterdam and 87th which is UWS.
I need a drink.

my vote goes to forest hills queens... weve got a top floor corner one bedroom that will become available in sunny side...
may not fall within your move in time frame though...
if you explain your situation.. perhaps the company can provide you with temporary living quarters until you settle in yourself...

Dammit, everyone tells me something different I was just talking to someone who said the UWS was great. Ahhhh this sucks, its a month to month lease so I can just get in and suck it up until I find something else.
Amp, thanks for the offer but I am trying to stay in Manhattan, not worried about the cost savings by living outside Manhattan. I tried HR, but they don't have anything thats temporary other then suggesting me executive suites which were 5000/mo, awesome.

I see nothing wrong with living around the UWS. 87th is still a good neighborhood and transportation access is still great (B, D, A, C, 1, 2, 3).

+1 agree. UWS is not bad. Like "SayNoToPiston" said, good neighborhood and good transportation. You have Central Park a few blocks away, great movie theater not too far, (65th and Broadway), and probably the best Italian restaurant i've ever had Coppolla's West (79th and Amsterdam). Good luck.

Agreed . 110th is about where I would limit myself to if I am living in Manhattan. Unless you are living on Columbia University campus grounds , which you are not.

You wont regret living on 86th and Amsterdam. It may not be the best and most convenient place right now, but it is still a great location.
One of my schools campuses is right next to Columbus Circle on 59th and Broadway. It might be a location you might flock to every now and then.

My friend's parents is turning the bottom level of their beautiful house in Howard Beach Queens into an apartment. They said they want 1200 (if I recall correctly) for it since it includes a new 72 inch LCD TV, new QUALITY furniture, very nice bathroom, etc etc. My friend's sister recently left for college in Maryland and he is getting a place of his own soon. They plan on renting it out and selling the place soon after.
They are still in the process of transforming the place and probably wont be ready for rent for at least a month. I honestly think it is unfortunate for the house to be transformed like that.
If you are interested, I can help you ask. The neighborhood is upper middle class and upper class. A quiet italian neighborhood with nice houses. You can search it on google and see for yourself. It is some what convenient but to get to the nearest train (A train), you would have to drive five minutes to the station near JFK airport and find parking.

Not sure if that is a typo, but we have a two car driveway, not a garage. It does have a canopy on top to protect the cars from the weather a bit. Staying in Manhattan makes sense since it is quicker to get to work and such.
Take your time, man
