MA Moving back to MA. Need Help

Hey guys I originally from MA. looks like I will be moving back from Texas soon. My question is what is everyone doing around emissions testing. Texas isn't as strict and I failed here. Have a hook up in Texas so no biggie. I will be extremely sad if I have a beautiful car that I can't drive.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Funny, were were just discussing that in the Mass. Meet board:

FRFC3S said:
"Oh, and it's not no emmissions tests for pre-obd vehicles. It's no emmissions for cars 1995 and back. Some cars were obd2 at that time."
So, as long as it's 1995 or older, you should be in the clear.

I just had my safety test in november, they are no longer hooking up to the computer or putting the O2 sniffer on. At least, they didn't for me.

So what s the deal on the new exhaust law? if its louder than stock you can get a ticket. Is it just a fine you pay or is it a fix it ticket where you have to prove its different. i really don't want to have to buy a stock exhaust for a fix it. i love my nur spec.

Says here you get a $50 fine, but there's nothing regarding it being just a fine or a possible fix-it ticket. PM FRFC3S, he's learning how to be a prosecutor; he'll probably know the answer to that one.

The new exhaust law is very vague just like any law in massachusetts. I got pulled over in Sept. of 08 do to my exhaust being "louder than stock". I have had the exhaust on my fc for 3 years before any law enforcment said anything to me. I had got pulled over before by a trooper or two and niether one said anything about my exhaust. I got away with a warning in Sept. but dont know if I will be so lucky next time. I could tell the trooper was having a bad morning and seemed relatively new to the force. Anyway my exhaust has 3.5" to 4" tips on it so it is pretty easy to tell its not a stock exhaust. If you have a racing beat or borla exhaust that looks fairly stock you should be ok. My exhaust does not recess under the bumper like the stock ones did. Any way just dont stomp on the gas when your going by a trooper!!!!

This is my opinion and is what I experienced; cops usually don't pull you over for just an exhaust. they usually catch you doing something ilegal like ran the red light, stop sign, driving fast etc.. and then they slap you a ticket adding on to whatever you have that's ilegal like a aftermarket exhaust. I used to have an evo 8 and had full 3 inch turbo back. boy that things was loud. there was alot of time cops were behind me and they never pulled me over. also i guess it's depend on what mood the cop are in I guess.

If you are just worried about getting your stickers then that will be an easy thing. just find an Inspection station and pay them more. I got mine done and I paid 100 bucks legit and everything. they will pass you for anything.

I've never been pulled over for an exhaust in all my rx7s. If they do pull you over it's because they want to ask you if you have drugs and then they will try to act like you did something wrong, ask them to do an on site decibel test and they will leave you alone.

Where are you moving to?

Looks like the only worry would be if the car produces a lot of smoke:

http://massvehiclecheck.state.ma.us/...info.html#what

The following types of motor vehicles are exempt from the emissions inspection:

* Cars, trucks and SUVs manufactured before model year 1996 no longer receive tailpipe emissions tests but fail their safety inspections if they produce visible smoke.
