I know in Virginia the car has to be 25yrs old to be c lassified as an antique. 79 Rx-7 just made it. But you can't drive then daily, only like 500 miles a year.

Maryland law limits you to 3000 miles a year, you have to have historic insurance on the car, a whole bunch more craph. I forgot the whole thing for it.
But the info you need, you could get it at the dealership yes, go to the service department at a dealership, they can pull it up for you.

Well inorder for you to get historical tags (we talked about this a while back).. your car has to be 25yrs old cuz mazda is still in business. If mazda went out of business you can get historical at 20yrs old.
That sucks... i didn't see that on the form... seems as if it can't be done until 2008. at least for my car. here is a link to the form

The vehicle meets all of the
following criteria:
The vehicle is between 20 to 24
model years old.
This part is obvious
The vehicle is a make which the
manufacturer no longer produces, as
verified by the manufacturer. (please
attach supporting documentation)
I would recommend calling or going to the MVA and asking what specific document they need. The obvious fact that you can't buy one is of course not going to be enough. Hell, a sales brochure proves they don't make it, but you might need something more. Heck, I think I'd just forge a document from a dealership stating it isn't made anymore.
The vehicle is identifiable by a vehicle
identification number (VIN) which is a
distinct series of numbers assigned
by the manufacturer within a general
group of numbers, as verified by the
manufacturer. (please attach
supporting documentation)
You have a registration and title showing the VIN
The vehicle is not substantially
altered, remodeled or
remanufactured from its original
construction.
This is true.
All of these apply to you.

I tried to get historic plates for my FB and failed. You have to remember as explained to me by the MVA finest that make and manufacturer are the same. Mazda is the make and manufacturer and they still make cars. The model would be the RX-7. So all do not apply to the Mazda RX-7. Also Mazda USA will mail you a document saying that the model was discontinued with their letter head on top. I have this paper but still did not get historic plates for my FB.

Hmm. I see what you're saying. That kinda defeats the purpose, since I can't think of a single "Make" that went out of business between 20 and 25 years ago. I'd be willing to bet the right person at MVA could do it. Would it be possible to get a copy of that document from Mazda? I know someone at MVA that may be able to make a call or two about this.
If you re-check the wording, it's slightly skewed.
Manufacturer = Mazda Japan
Make = Mazda (This is the wording on the title, don't believe me? Check it)
Model = Rx-7
Per the MVA:
Manufacturer = Mazda Japan
Make = Mazda (This is the wording on the title, don't believe me? Check it)
Model = Rx-7
Per the MVA:
The vehicle is between 20 and 24 model years old and is a make that the manufacturer no longer produces, as verified by the manufacturer (supporting documentation required). It is not substantially altered, remodeled or remanufactured from it original construction.
