Holy **** you have to be kidding me. My work is very close to "Pax river" as it is called around here. That is down in Saint Mary's county. Rikkis older brother has a house close to there. We got to hook up for a beer. You will be part of the Southern Maryland crew for sure.

Weather is nice , humid in the summer but prolly not as bad as Japan.
Lots of stuff to do in Solomons Island. Tikki bars, etc.. Lots of girls down there..
You will either love it or hare it here. I love southern Maryland.
(MIR) Maryland international raceway, huge 1/4 mile track on NHRA circuit is close to you also. I go often

That's gotta be mine. Wow, I hardly drive it around town anymore. Where's Lexington Park, 301? Do you drink beer? We gotta have a Waldorf RX 7 hang sometime, now that Dave's is running again!

Lexington Park is in Saint Mary's down where the base is. It's about 45min or an hour south on Rt5.

I don't blame you Jason. I would not take a paycut either. Good luck.

Hey Brian maybe we should get a HOOTERS meet going...

Don't have to ask me twice!

I got that wideband gauge yesterday, just waiting on the column mount. Looks pretty sweet.

I personally don't like SoMD. I'm sure there are many worse places though. I prefer more heavily populated areas I suppose. I like to keep myself busy at all times, and it seems that there just isn't enough down here to do that.

As far as shooping goes, Waldorf has a mall and pretty much any store you can think of.

**** waldorf. what a shithole. traffic gets worse and worse everyday. I must say we have had some great weather the past two weeks. not very hot outside.

anyhow, jt. your wifey can go to bowie town center instead of waldorf area shopping. much more to offer, and it is about 30 minutes away from southern md. or you can go as far as arundel mills, which is about 1hr15 away. huge mall, it'll take her all day just to walk the damn thing.

car things, not a whole lot. we live in southern md, so the things you see alot is mustangs, ford and chevy pick up trucks. there are some really fast cars here, but nothing a single turbo fd or fc could not handle. MOST OF THE TIME!

real estate is getting more expensive in charles county, but st. mary's is not as bad right now as chuck county is.

I love Southern MD!!

Unfortunately for you JT and fortunate for people that live in Southern MD.
There really isn't many Apartments in the area.
which is good for people that live here because it keeps alot of the rift raft out,
if you know what i mean.

I sell local papers for the area. Calvert county which is the county above ST Mary's.
If you need i can probably mail you some papers and you can look for yourself.

oh yea.. Charles county is getting bad.. People are calling Charles county " baby PG county"
which isn't good. But the part of southern MD you going to, is pretty slower pace quiet.
If you used to the hustle and bustle of urban living. You'll hate it.. But as a place to raise
a family. Its great.. Good schools and isn't so many "YO" boys if you get my drift.

As far as shopping.. What kind of shopping does your wife does???
What ever she wants or what ever price levels.. ITs here.
Bowie town center, Charles town center, landover mall <-- nono, PG plaza, Montgomery
mall, Pentagon city are all basic malls with regular stores...
But if your wife is the affluent type and like to spend alot..
She'll LOVE TYSONS II, in tysons corner VA.

One last thing.. The Washington DC, Northern VA, MD area region is one of the better
regions in the USA. Let the haters hate.. but one way to find out..

anyways.. Welcome if you come....

^^^Good points. Stay away from PG County and Southeast DC unless you don't mind getting into occasional gunfights. Some areas of PG are less prone to crime than others; I have a friend who lives there and hasn't had any problems in his apartment complex (yet).

The cost of living in SoMD is nothing compared to areas closer to DC, though it is rising quickly as people from DC are moving down to escape the urban sprawl. I live in Calvert County, about 45 minutes from the base. It's a pretty good location because I'm also only about 40 minutes from 495 and then it's just however long it takes on the beltway to any area in the DC/MD/NoVA area.

Cool....

I might take that paper, I should hear about the job this week. I dont know if I want to stay there forever or anything, just maybe a year or 2, but if its nice then I dont mind staying.

I grew up in a lower-middle area in Cali, so not much bothers me. As for the slow pace, I could use some for a while which will be nice.

Thanks for all the inputs, more are welcome.

BTW--my wife like coach, prada, anything that costs over $1000 and she will buy it haha

Check out www.somdnews.com and google The Maryland Independent for apartment listings. The apartments in Waldorf area go anywhere from 800 monthly all the way to 1500 monthly. I "reasearched" it a few weeks ago. If you can afford it, rent a townhouse in St.Mary's County.

October 1st is a good date, you are escaping the heat, and you are hitting fall. It's amazing weather. Nice and cool outside.

But be careful, most of Southern MD is Mustang, Ford and Chevy trucks, and dump trucks. So much construction going on.
