Seat time is the number one factor for track too. Not sure where you were going with that statement.

Well it's my opinion i guess.
I've autox before and was very competitive but also bored stiff. It's doesn't provide any rush at all.
If its the only thing available to you thats one thing, but if there's karting tracks, road courses, or even drag strips, i'd prefer all of them over a parking lot with cones.

The title of the thread is "looking for NE's best driver" and OP wants to do that by going indoor karting. I'm saying the race winner at F1 Boston isn't necessarily going to be that person.

Stupid thread. The karts are too different to decide who is best. Run the same kart, same weight, 10 laps. best single lap is the best THAT DAY on THAT TRACK.

Those who dismiss autox just don't get it.

Drifting takes skill for sure but I hate that it's 'judged'. That's for gymnastics and ice skating. LOL

I've taken alot of cars around the track and noticed that even upgrading the steering wheel and shifter changes my laptimes as well. To find the best driver, we have to run timed laps on the same exact cars.

This has helped me improve my times btw. You guys should invest...

I'm leaving this thread open b/c there is some good info in it. Let's all try and not be too juvenile, and to the OP--take a chill pill.

I don't understand how you can say the best drivers come from karting and then say auto-x which in my opinion is pretty much just karting with real cars is dumb... Sure there is no passing or anything, but that doesn't mean it doesn't make you a good driver.

I could just as easily say straightaways on road courses are lame

also, if you auto-x at a stadium or especially small airports you get going pretty damn fast...

I just picked up a G25 the other day and started an iRacing account. I need a lot of practice, but then again, when in your very first race someone turns into you and damages your car in the first lap...

Yea I had a G25. I'm selling mine right now. My post was half in jest and half serious though. Video games are a great place to learn about racing lines in a comfortable and safe environment although I personally still don't know jack about racing at all. I'm embarassed to say but I did learn how to drive stick on a G25 (the FD was my first manual car). I'm positive any mediocre racer would do great in a real racing simulation.

i will have to agree that the best drivers come from karting. all Forumla 1 drivers practice on karts and came from karting. once they have become an f1 driver they can pretty much do what they please anywhere in motorsports.

on a side note. i WILL BE at f1 boston on sunday and show this chump whos boss of the track. he has yet to to beat my best lap on any day we go. we need to setup a meet at f1 boston it is a good time.

also he is being a loud mouth to get everyone amped up to go. lol seems to be working.

thanks man. Yeah i've built a Ae86 drift car with a turbocharged 4ag that made 400hp. I built a cool drift brake for it too. It was a stage brake from CNC and we basically ran it so it would lock each front wheel independently so in a big drift you can actually save yourself from completely spinning or make you spin more. We would drift the hell out of that car. It was fun. We ended up drag racing it and ran 10.5's on drag radials..

Yeah I know I would have alot of fun drifting. I can't see myself building a car for it though and where do they have events? Beside's with my drag car and shifter kart i already don't have enough time to enjoy them another project/race car would just wear me out.

ok buddy.. When a car can pull 4 g's auto-x-ing you let me know..

How does racing a stock car, against yourself, or the clock, around cones in a parking lot, never going into 3rd gear, teach you how to handle a real race car,on a real race track, with other race cars going into the same corner as you?

Listen this thread is pointless. I'm not the fastest driver in the NE. I've learned to accept there's always going to be someone faster. Although I consider myself a very well rounded driver/rider. I can race anything and be competitive at it. I prefer fast, high speed, high intensity racing. Shifter karts in my personal opinion requires alot of various skills and I don't think there's anything better for becoming a fast driver then mastering shifter karts.
That skill will carry over into many different types of racing.

I don't like auto-x at all. Call me what you want I don't care. It's stupid and lame. You can just as easily organise the same group of guys and goto a real racetrack. What do you gain racing yourself around cones in a parking lot?

everyone is entitled to an opinion.. mine is the following.. lame factor goes to a 10 second run goin straight.. however fun
most folks who autocross typically run the road course as well.. if youve ever competed in autocross.. you would know that its an ideal prelude to road course..
its hardly limited to stock cars.. and a grassroots motorsport synonymous to rally and road course..
you would also know that skills gathered at an autocross is applicable to a road course barring wheel to wheel.. im considerin that a gain

I race at Oakland Valley, which is in upstate NY. There website is OVRP.com

NJ motorsports park has a nice track as well. I've run there once when it first opened.

Etown has races as well. I believe they might be running on the road coarse but im not sure.
I haven't raced my kart at etown yet.
