Question Local shops to test out/inspect coilovers? (NoVa)

Hey guys

I have some coilovers I'd like to have looked over professionally, make sure they're in good condition etc. I know nothing about this short of seeing any oil leaking is bad lol...so I don't know what this involves. Hopefully there's a way a shop can inspect/test them w/o actually installing them on a vehicle?

Depending on what it involves, I was thinking of taking them by PFS, Piper Motorsports, or Curry's....but again I have no idea what kind of equipment you need to do such a thing, and who has it (my guess is Curry's would definitely have it; they have all the real high end expensive stuff).

Thanks!

Ramy,

Give Bret at RP Peformance in Manassas a call. He should be able to help. If he doesn't do it there are alot of shops on the row where he is that might be able to.

Brian, thanks...I asked Bret already. He doesn't know of ANY local shops that have a shock dyno. You need a full race shop apparently for that...

it is kind of funny. All the NASCAR teams carry a shock dyno in their trailers, and we can't even find one in a large metro area.

Calvin, you're telling me lol. But you also gave me an idea...skip the imports... the domestic guys are HARDCORE. So I called up a couple of domestic shops, and vioala, found a shop w/ a shock & chassis dyno that'll do it

Jay-Dee Supply Co.
Baltimore, MD 21226
715 E. Ordnance Road
410-760--1100

I spoke w/ Bob from the shop, and he said as long as the coilovers have 1/2" hiems (spelling?) on each end, he can test them for $15 a shock. I have NO IDEA what hiems are lol. Do FD coilovers have 1/2" hiems on each end??

Pat, I'd really appreciate it. Manassas is a walk in the park compared to Baltimore. Plus I'm always in Manassas for one thing or another...

LOL sure...wanna buy 'em?

What are they?
You'll find out over the weekend, now won't ya? I promise you won't be disappointed!

yo dude, a heim is a type of swivel/joint.
it's mostly found on tie rod ends and the like.
so, if the ends of your shocks look somewhat like the following pic, you are good to go.

Thanks Suds. But I don't think ANY coilovers are like that on BOTH ends... the guy said it needs heims on both ends. I guess I'll email him some pics and see what he says.
