hi, Im sure this question gets asked alot but im a student and i live in western mass and am looking to get an rx7 when i get out of school in may and i was loking for some advice. Ive been folowing the auctions on ebay and was wondering if its better to buy one on there, or to try and look for one thats local. I would be looking to get a 3'rd gen. Any help people can give me would be great, or show me thier rx7 so i could get some ideas. Thx.

Go to the tech sections and read the archives and FAQ's and all that.

Bottom line, they are very expensive to maintain, and things will break. Repairs are expensive, especially if you are paying for the labor with the parts.

There is an also "must be faster..." addiction that most people experience.

expect to pay $12K - $15K for one in good shape with few to no mods
you can find cheaper but you'll be spending more in the long run
and I'd budget at least $2K a year to maintain it

be prepared for lousy gas mileage

you do know you have to warm it up in the morning before you go anywhere and let it cool down when you get there before shutting it off right?

It would be better to start with a fb or fc as a first rx7.

Well no but when you get 15mpg on a good day you'd be surprised how fast they burn a tank of gas up

Nobody here is saying don't get one, just research thoroughly and make sure you have the funds to support it.
It's really no different than owning any other highend sports car.

Thanks for the advice. I have been thinking of a few different project cars to do. I really would like to get an rx7, but i was also thinking of getting either a supra, or and older m3, but either of those would cost likely cost more, and it definitely wont be a daily driver.

you can buy them off of ebay! the only way to buy properly from ebay is thinking of the car being a huge piece of ****! so look at the body and maint. that is guaranteed. now the motor you wont know till you get it. i bought my car with a blown motor so thats the best way IMO. you know what your starting with and where to go. so buy smart!

an E36 M3 will run you about the same as a FD
a Mark IV supra will run you $20K and up

mono4lamar, yea i am a little leary about buying one off ebay because of not being able to really look at it close up, or to give it a drive first. it seems that there are some pretty good deals though.
Thanks for the prices niburu , it will help me figure out what i really want to get.(im still leaning towards the FD though)

i wouldnt worry about the motor... well worry but not as much just consider it hopefully rebuildable. like i said look at the overall condition and value it as a "rolling chassis". if it turns out to be a good motor great! if not then your already prepared to build it. and if you dont want to build it i know someone to build the motor! and i can do all the rest at my shop
