500 for speeding? how fast were you going?

did they get you right where 895 splits off of 95?
I saw them sitting there yesterday, looked like they were having a great time.

Oh, and I've had.. 3 tickets.
  • 73 in a 55 on rt40 in Cecil County, MD.
  • 73 in a 55 on i95 by Baltimore
    I passed an unmarked car.
My speed was actually higher, but the cop dropped it down to be "nice".
  • 86 in a 70 in Texas
After driving all the way there from Maryland.

Thumbs up

I had tickets in my PROBE GT(My First Car) back in the day, but they were minor like 38/25(the first month I had my car) and about 3 1/2 years ago i was test driving my friends S2000 handling with him in the pass side and i was making a sharp left hand turn at a light doing 50/35, got cought by a cop traveling way behind me. I talked the DA to drop it down to 44/35, which he did, but I had my FD for the past year and its been lucky, I mean I always speed in it, Just a few days ago I was doing 90 on a curvy off ramp coming from 7100 to 66 W, and was merging and passed an 18 wheeler so i sped up to 120 and it was like 1am so it was dark and right as I am about to get on from the merge lane, I see lights turning from the middle of 66 and making a left U turn and I slam on the brakes to 65 and i think to myself, ****, I'm going to jail...but the cop turns and continues to stay on the HOV lane and shortly continues going past me...and I am like ****...Now that's what i call Lucky, If i was there a Minute erly I would have been, well FUCKED>>>>

actually no it was on that loong strait section of 895 like your going to the tunnel. theres no shoulders there which is why i wasnt worried about them doing radar. i have no idea where he was or how he got my speed. if he were on the side of the road he would have never caught up to me so i must have passed him and had no idea. i had already decelerated and was a few miles down the road before i saw him coming up from behind.

and he had no idea how fast i was going but said he was being generous with 110. i mean he was being generous, but he still had no clue how fast i was going. i dont understand that. how they can write you a ticket without knowing how fast you were going and basically guessing.

Talking

You could fight it, and accept general speeding and a DA can drop it down, since the cop has no physical speed to proove...if they dont bring a lawyer and they will...lol

You mean DA (District Attorney), You plead not guilty to a charge of 110 in xx, you wait and then you come outside the court room and speak with the DA and explain that you were speeding, but not at the speed the officer charged you with and you make sure that you explaint that you were speeding and accept a general speeding ticket, but relay that officer did not have a radar on you, just a guestimate, but dont be cocky about it...and if they dont budge get a continuance and get a lawyer...

PS

DA is always there...and they are not police officer specific they take care of the cases for everyine in the court room on that particular day...(one per court room)

thanks man that sounds like a plan. when i plead not guilty before the cop just said "i dont have any evidence against the defendant" and the judge was like, "oh ok well your free to go then." so i guess i didnt go through the entire process.

so when i plead not guilty i get to set outside and talk to a DA? or do i have to request that or something?

I got like seven or eight last year. All for speeding. One was for speeding, loud exhaust, tints, no registration, and a license plate cover. The guy was a huge *****.

Got em all down to a $100 fine, and no points.

lol

Not guilty will basically make you wait untill everyone goes through their motions, and then there will be a small recess in which those who pled not guilty will have a chance to get in line and talk to the DA who the Judge will announce and tell that so and so is outside and that you can speak to him/her...thats where you can make your deal... Just You<>DA and his paper charge that he/she scribbles on...heh

if i were a judge it would appear to me that the people talking to the DA are just trying to get out of it. does the DA actually try and defend you? or do they basically just put what you say to them in the right wording to the judge?

^ive also heard that you can request that the hearing be moved to the court house nearest your residence, and if they cop has to drive far most of the time they wont show.

if that is true then im going to see if i can get the date set back until after january 1st (when i move away to college ) can someone confirm this?

Not sure on the Move of Court part, you just have to call the number on the ticket and speak with the clerk of the court...

The basic job of the DA is to prosecute you...You and your lawyer defends you...

The judge oversees both parts and makes a decision which is more fair in his experience for both parties, if DA agrees to drop 110 in xx charge and only do the general speeding and you agree than the judge will ok and bring that decision...the only downside of the process is your record and driving points which either the officer ror the DA will have with them to give to the judge...

I've had alot of tickets... but I've only had two guiltys.

55 in a 45 - Guilty (first ticket ever)

89 in a 35
Wreckless
Negligent - Charges dropped, Cop didn't show for court. (I damn near shat myself, hired a lawyer and all.) I cut off an off duty cop on accident trying to make my exit, and he started chasing me in his personal car, then called in his buddy to setup a speed trap. It was entrapment.

65 in a 45 in alabama.... Don't drive there no more.

84 in a 55
Wreckless ... VA - Fairfax... My license is suspended there. I'll never go back to that **** hole again.

69 in a 55 - MD guilty.

Even after all that ****... I drive my Jeep Cherokee and my Rx7 for under 50 bucks a month in insurance.

this is all over the course of 8 years.

3 so far for me...

Failure to reduce sped in special hazard condition - Car spun off road in sudden downpour from hydroplaning and some woman just called the cops who came and towed my car for 100 bucks before I could even get a free tow from my friend and the cop gave me a ticket. ***. Talked it down to bald tire non moving and was out of it for $75

Speeding 85 in 65 - Guilty but I talked it down to failure to obey traffic control device - 2pts but the judge was a bitch and charged me $175 for it.

Failure to yield right of way - I pull out from a stop sign and a guy who cant even read or speak english speeds up and tries to go around me in the shoulder and hits my car!!! He tried to drive off but I convinced him to stop and called the police myself.... I GET THE TICKET!!!! WTF!? Still pending but I plead not guilty and have trial next monday. there wasn't even any damage done to his car, only mine and so I'm still screwed because even if I get out of the ticket, it just converts to old no fault and I don't have any collision. A$$holes!

For the dealys with the DA bullshit, that sucks. In my county, ADAs don't prosecute speeding tickets anymore unless you're represented by an attny. The cop has to do it himself or herself. Thats good and bad though because you should always plead not guilty in that case and make the ******* cop work to prove the charge, even if it is your word against theirs. They do, however, get paid overtime to come to court so they rarely miss it. What really sucks, though, is you'll never get any sort of deal except from the judge because ADAs don't care what you'll plead guilty to because it's not their problem anymore and the cop won't lower it because they gave the ticket in the first place. IMO, you should always have an excuse and always try to get out of it. NEVER, EVER, JUST PLEAD GUILTY AS CHARGED. Period. Even with an explanation. If the cop/judge/ADA wants your ***, they have to compromise or work for it. Usually, just by pleading not guilty and asking for a trial they will delay delay delay and eventually offer some sort of deal because judges have more important **** on their docket to deal with. When you plead not guilty, the judge will probably ask you if you've been offered a deal. If you haven't, they will most likely get you one just so they don't have to waste their time on a traffic trial because 99% of all traffic tickets are just guilty please with no trial at all.

In maryland DA's do not come to traffic court. Only the cop shows up. Just FYI. You can sometimes catch the cop before the court session and talk to him sensibly... but the ADA and DA don't waste their time with minor traffic infractions (or major ones for that matter).

Too many for me to even remember the exact number, but close to 20 and almost all speeding.

The one I remember most invloved the following:

GSXR750
screaming girl
5 cop cars ( one undercover)
1 helicopter

My lawyer got it down to a reckless from a felony evading. Man I got lucky and it was a stupid thing to do, but we will just call it a learning experience.

Amateurs... lol

Lets see what I got (this is only what I remember, not a comprehensive list at all):
1) 81 in a 55 on I-66 Eastbound, by the cops who sit near the Monument St. exit (I was 16 or something, first ticket I ever got). Ticket reduced to a 74 in a 55, then ditched my VA license.
2) Now on my PA license, I sported a BEAUTIFUL 92 in a 65 in an attempt to set a record: making it from Penn State to Philly in 2 hours FLAT (200 mile trip LOL). I got pulled over an hour into the drive at the 100 mile marker on I-76 Went back to VA the following weekend, threw my PA license @ 'em and got my VA license back, which was now clear of the previous charge (the charges didn't transfer between VA and PA)
3) 88 in a 65 in MD, on Rt 70, ticket dismissed
4) 88 in a 65, in MD, on I-95 South, ticket dismissed pending probation for a year (this was over 2 years ago)
5) HOV Violation (gay), ticket dismissed
6) Improper lane change on Rt. 28 in Manassas by Fairfax County Po-po during a "traffic enforcement" event (where they have two officers in the street pulling over the cars, and two officers in the cruisers writing tickets lol. Ticket dismissed
7) Pulled over for "speeding" with no proof by Officer on the Toll Road, on my way back home late one night. Also had no front tags. Saw him coming up to pace me, kept changing my speed. Officer let me go What a fine gentleman lol
8) Defective equipment, right near Tysons Corner (Fairfax County Po-po), ticket dismissed
9) Same stop as #8, but gave me a "No inspection sticker" ticket too (I had just bought my FB). Ticket dismissed
10) 81 in a 55 on I-467 North, on my way to Rotorfest. Reduced to 60 in a 55, which is a no-point violation in PA.
11) Improper turn in DC. Cop was off duty, took my apology and let me go.
12) Got pulled over for looking/staring at a (Fairfax County) cop LOL (I was driving the FD, go figure). He couldn't find anything to justify the stop except no front tags, which I paid and went on my way.
13) Talking on cell phone while driving (illegal in DC, go figure). Ticket dismissed
14) 85 in a 55, on I-66 East, in Arlington County. Charged with Reckless Driving, possible license suspension & jailtime. Ticket reduced to improper driving pending one year probation (no offenses allowed) + aggressive driving course
15) 88 in a 65, on I-95 South, in the middle of nowhere, VA. Charged with Reckless Driving, possible license suspension & jailtime. Ticket reduced to Speeding, 79 in a 65 + Driver Improvement Course.

Needless to say, I'm taking it easy for a bit...
