help needed w/a short shifter kit and a c-west headlight conversion kit

I have two problems I could use some help on. I just bought a B&M short shifter kit and was told by my mechanic that if i put it in my 94 rx7 it would ruin the car.

I also recently acquired a C-west headlight conversion kit and the instructions are entirely in japanese. Does anyone know where I can get an english translation of these or if there is a good mechanic for RX-7s in the baltimore area that would know? Please email me at allanbacon@gmail.com

You can post back here if you want but I check my email more frequently than I check the site (due to lag)

Thanks, Allan

Why would someone say that a short shifter would ruin a car?
That's quite possibly one of the more absurd things I've ever heard.
Installing a short shifter is also very very easy and you should be able to tackle that yourself.

Is that c-west kit authentic? It shouldn't really be that hard to install. Search the forum for posts about people installing that kit or the RE kit. All the headlight kits have a pretty similar installation process.

your mechanic isn't so great.
how a short shifter can ruin a transmission is beyond me.

if you don't mind me asking.
How much did you pay for the authentic Cwest headlight kit??
and is it HID?

A short shifter CAN be harder on the sychros, depending how you drive.

It is easy to install, if you are in the Maryland/DC/VA area, swing by and I'll pop it in :p

Hotwheel: Sweet, problem solved

I paid around a grand for it. I see that C-west's new US site is selling it for $888 now though. Damn those bastards

Only if you think installing a short shifter automatically turns your otherwise stock vehicle into an Indy car. Short shifters (when properly installed) actually save the transmission in the form of preventing more missed gears.

The headlight kit can't be very hard. I just finished installing my RE kit last night and they're supposedly damn near the same. The hardest part was cutting the metal (tough to get a jigsaw or air-powered cutoff wheel in with a fender and bumper cover, Dremels don't have big enough blades, and it's too risky for a sawzall). After that, the hard part is mounting the lights on the brackets because the springs are pretty stiff.

Next time ask the mechanic for specifics on HOW it can ruin the car. You never know, he just might have some sort of logical explanation but by asking, you will know if he is full of it or not.
