HELP!!! Might need a rebuild in the nj area!!!!
Was driving my 93 single turbo fd today and out of nowhere when I came to a stop at a light I noticed a rough and irregular idle. I been reading on the symptoms of blown apex seals and I have the irregular lumpy idle at low rpms but when I drive and rev the car past 3k rpms the car sounds fine. My vacuum pressure is also a but jumpy. I parked the car and have been trying to read and find as much info as possible. I'm located in northern nj. I'm considering if it is a rebuild that is needed to have it done by speed1, jpr or ir performance . Any input would be gladly appreciated. I'm looking for good service And reasonable pricing. I've dealt with speed1 in the past they were very professional not the cheapest but got what I needed done and it was done the right . But the 3 hour drive is the main issue with going back to speed1. Any input would be gladly appreciated. Anyone else had the same symptoms as me and resulted in a bad seal?

That said, Rich/Ihor did a full overhaul on the motor including portwork, had everything balanced/clearanced and seem to have done a phenominal job. The car made it to DGRR this weekend after its initial low boost tune and survived some rather vigorous testing I put it through. Ihor/Rich are also some of the most attentive and personable people I've had touch the car. I to considered Speed 1 but found that some of my messages to them went unanswered and considering IRP was local to family I visit on a regular basis I went with them.
As far as cost goes they arn't cheap, but they don't cut corners with builds either. Rich is incredibly picky with the parts they use in the engines but thats more out of pride that ppl don't blow the engines they build.
If you want more details feel free to hit me up.
Thanks uleepera. Irp sounds like its a good shop from what I have heard. I've dealt with speed1 personally and they are also pretty good I'm just looking around to see any input on any shops around since they all seem to be about a 2 hour radius. Anyone ever dealt with jpr?
Dosent sound to me that you blew a seal, sure you have a few of the symptoms, but usally you have a drastic loss of power, harder starting… best way b4 you drive yourself nuts do a compression check.
Ive known Ihor for a long time, he knows his **** and does some impressive work.
I think most rotary guys migrate to a shop closes to them, although we all will travel to who we feel most comfortable with. I’ve been a JPR guy for a while, ive know Jim since 97’ countless guys in the area and all over run his motors or one of his builds. From stock to insane, he does it all, countless 9 second car’s, that run season after season on the same motor. Street cars out there having fun every day, even a few road racers are having him build some of their newer setups. A easy guy to talk to always willing to share info and insight and match your build to your goals. Full machining, balancing, and tuning, as well custom fabrication available as much as your wallet lets you dream. Some of the best prices you’ll find out there…. But hey I’m biased,

Jpr does sound like a good shop as well. I saw a sick 20b they built and I was drooling over it lol. I'm just trying to see what's my best bet since they are all about 2 hours away. I'm worried about it being a blown seal as this is my first rotary and I don't know much about them. I'm going to do a compression test and see how it goes
