Use real wheel cleaner...some of the eagle 1 stuff. Get the right kind for the right kind of wheels. Ignore what the parts salesman might tell you. _DO NOT_ get the etching type cleaner. Get the All in 1 or else the one designed for clearcoat or painted wheels. It will work, it might take some effort from you with some scotchbrite pads or something like that, but it wil get off the old brake dust.. Trust me. This is something I am an expert at!!! Brake dust from a race track weekend is really tough to get off, and the brake pad material is seriously nasty stuff. In one weekend we make the wheels black, and I clean them front and back every track weekend.

To continue about the wheel cleaning.... The carb cleaner will not work, and it will do sometning to the finishe on the wheels. If you intend to re-do the clearcoat, then maybe you can use it, but most of them do some sort of staining to the aluminum. Just avoid carb cleaner for this purpose. Wheel cleaner is cheper anyway.

A degreaser will get whatever grease is on the wheels, but it will not touch old brake dust. That is just a different material. Use the eagle 1 wheel cleaner... It might take lots of it, but it will do it.

I just won this last night. It should be A LOT more efficient than that huge *** Holley carb and I shouldn't lose to much on top end power. Just thought I'd share.

And.. if you ever do get the etching type for a specific reason, be sure to hide it from your wife - or surely she'll get a hair up her **** to clean her car and spray her painted wheels with the stuff. Ask me how I know..

Yeah, use one of the tools listed on this page:

http://mazdatrix.com/toolmisc.htm

called a flywheel stopper

They are cheap to buy, but you can create something like one if you get a little creative and come up with something that will do the trick.

I was looking at the entry list to the autocross Sunday:

http://tidewatersportscarclub.com/in...pper&Itemid=54

And I noticed that Carl is listed as running in AS. Does that mean you got an FD???? I might have to drive by your work or house and check this out... :-)

Anyone want a really cool rotary powered car cheap?:

BANDIT FOR SALE

"BANDIT", Mazda peripheral port rotary powered, mid-engined, winged, single
seat hillclimb car. Built and campaigned by Ohio's Jerry Kieft, "Bandit"
became the car to beat in the PA/NC hillclimb scene during the '80s and
early '90s, and accumulated a stack of FTD trophies. In 2004 I bought it and
spent a lot of money and effort bringing it up to date in the safety area.
It now passes NEHA's stiff tech requirements, which are tougher than the
SCCA's.

During 2004 and 2005 Bandit was occasionally run in NEHA events but was
bothered by overheating in our long climbs, and rain in addition during
2005. (Bandit's monster rear slicks do NOT like dampness). In late 2005 the
car's radiator problems were diagnosed during tuft testing at a local
airport, but during the last run the 300HP peripheral port engine had a
problem that on a later teardown turned out to be a bearing.

I am getting down the pike, have another race car to drive, and no
experience in rebuilding rotaries. Bandit is regretfully being sold as a
roller with all of the parts necessary to complete its forced draft cooling
system.

Bandit is a ferociously fast, 1200 lb. car with corner downforce from its 3
element front and rear wings that has to be experienced. It needs someone to
get it back together and a good shoe to drive it. I would recommend the idea
of putting a decent stock or lightly modified 13B engine in it for starters,
and spend next season learning how to drive this formidable machine. Then
put the peripheral port back in and hang on, brother!

Comes with trailer, disassembled peripheral port engine, other parts,
advice, great tires. Tight fit in cockpit; legs longer than 30" inseam will
require seat changes. Lots of aluminum and open trailer: needs to be
delivered before the roads start getting salted! sandipeaslee@comcast.net,
or call (781) 631-8138 or 631-9975, (Marblehead, MA).

$2995

(Don't ask me what I've got in it).

It would have been easier with the right kind of wheel cleaner. It gets brake stuff off better than degreaser.

No problem. I will be around the house later today, and tomorrow. I have had ZERO free time lately. The kids went back this morning. I should actually have some free time the rest of this week. I might have a problem with bringing it to Jenro's.
