i guess now its time to show my n00bness, but where would be a good place to find a 3" header? As of right now i have none of the parts that i need, all i know is what i want to have on my car at the end.
I went to big al's muffler and brake and asked them if they could do it and they told me that its impossible to put 3" pipes on an rx-7 and then i went to great bridge muffler and brake and they said it would be $500
btw i would do it myself but im not the best welder and im afraid id get the bending wrong so i figured id just get it done right first time.

sorry, as for the info on my fc...my '88 t2 is having a tough time holding a steady idle...this weekend i'm going to replace all of the vacuum lines on the intake plenum...but my guess is the BAC, as it's been replaced once (the car has very good maintenance records) back in 2001...but now it's having idle issues, and it misses under light acceleration (well...mostly when idle and slowly revving the engine...maybe the TPS isn't calibrated right? i haven't checked it for any flat spots...) under boost it's VERY strong, the car only has 92,xxx miles on it...i was just wondering if anybody could take a look at it and give me some other opinions, as i'm pretty new to the rotary scene...btw, the car is essentially stock except for a Defi boost gauge (steering column mounted), and a high flow intake (MAF adapter type, w/ a heat shield) i'm going to be picking up an HKS VPC F-Con next weekend, and then i'll be switching to an aluminum turbo inlet tube, as to eliminate any chances there's a crack in the TID...thanks for any help guys!

FWIW, RX7's are very sensitive to exhaust shape, size, etc. People like Racing Beat and Mindtrain have systems that are really well designed with years of experience and dyno time designing them. In all honesty they are the best deal you are going to find. They are expensive, but I have seen 15 year old systems get $4-500 on Ebay. They last almost forever and give probably the best performance you are going to find. One of the problems is that RX7 exhaust run about 400 degrees hotter than a similiar piston engine car. Much of the pipe, mufflers, etc that are good for piston engined car, die after a fairly short time on a RX7.

With that said I am building my own system, but I feel like I have learned much about RX7's in the 6-7 years I have been messing with them. I have some unusual goals for my system, and want to give it a try. One thing you need is very thick pipe (think roll bar pipe) for all the pipes towards the front. I have 2" OD x .120" wall pipe (most exhaust pipe is about .050" wall) for the header and all the pipes back to where it makes the turn to go up over the axle. I have dual pipe header and duals all the way back behind the driver. Then I have mandrell bent oval shaped pipe 2.25"x3.5" that goes up over the axle then into a lava rock muffler. There are dual high temp parallel cats in the system. This is still an experiment. It may be too loud and if it is, I need to make changes. I have left myself some space for subtractions and additions.

I put lots of effort and data gathering from people with race cars, street cars, etc. My car is a NA and will probably stay that way. So if you get a homebuilt system (even if from a place like Big Al's) make sure it is pretty well thought out, or else you may be disappointed in the results.

BTW, what part of Chesapeake are you in?

fastrax, I would also sugest checking Felix's FAQ and other info. He also has links to some FC FAQ's. I have read a step by step cook book process for checking the idle on a FC (I don't remember the link, sorry, I am an FB person). One of the things I remember it saying was that usually more than one thing was wrong and the only way to get it right was to do a complete check of all of the system.

Felix's FAQ

http://members.ij.net/mrmazda/main.html
http://members.ij.net/mrmazda/cfaqmenu.html
http://members.ij.net/mrmazda/toolbox.html

You will learn much about these cars if you read this completely.

Sorry I didn't make it to Hooter, was working as usual. Can I come over tomorrow and pick up the parts Yoshi, and also pay you for the motor?

It was fun. Good to see everyone and meet the new people. Turnout was OK. Enjoyed BS-ing with everyone. Hooters AC was not working, but I was OK, but a few others seemed to not appreciate it.

Thanks for everyone comming, those of you that didn't missed out :-)

We had a great time! It was stunning to see 2 FB's and 3 FD's, and 2 8's all together . Hopefully we'll have some FC's next time too. In case you didn't notice, we got alot of "props" from other high performance cars that drove through the lot. What really did it for me is that my wife had a good time. The more fun she has with the FD, the more money and time I get to spend on it. It's funny, at first she thought that car was just my toy, but after I brought it home, she decided that it was a HOT car. Now whenever we have the chance to got out just the two of us, she always suggests we take the "Mazda". She really appreciated the fact that there were a few girls there too, especially another pregnant one, lol.

We should organize a "group drive" sometime. It's nice to be able to get together, but our cars were meant for driving! In NoVa they have organized group drives along some of the curvey scenic routes, maybe we should try that. Would be cool to see a long string of 7's just cruisin'.

I took the exit from 64East to Hampton Road Center Parkway towards Langley at 60mph, smooooooth as silk! My wife said she **** a brick when she saw me zoom around that bend. Actually I'm a very conservative driver, and any point if I had felt I was close to drifting, I would have slowed down, but my baby took it all in stride, like I was goin' down a straight away.

Calvin, great to finally meet you, and cool to meet the new guys and see Eric and Dwayne again. I hope we can convince some more people to go to the Mazda event at FedEx Field!

For those of you thinking about going to Zoom Zoom Live, if you want to get a leg up going into that even, might I suggest one of the following:

Old Dominion Regions SCCA Solo II (Autocross) novice school.

http://www.odr-scca.org/novice-school.htm

I have been asked to be an instructor at this school. I may have a conflict so I am not sure I will be teaching or not, but the people I know who will be are very good. I assure you you will do better at Zoom Zoom Live after going to this school.

In addition I will probably list some of the other local autocrosses in the next few days in the events section of the meetup site.

thanks for the tips calvin, the more i look into the whole thing the better RB is looking and as for what part of chesapeake im from, i live in great bridge, in the neighborhood bhing great bridge muffler and brake and across from food lion.

Also, im having a newly developing problem with my 7, the idle is running high due to the throttlebody getting stuck or caught. me and some friends tried tinkering with it and made sure there was no debris around it and then we hit it with some wd-40 but its still giving me trouble. any tips?

p.s. for the driving course, is there an age limit or is it as long as you have a lisence? most people dont like the idea of a seveteen year old learning those things cuz they think well do it in everyday driving, but i like my tires too much to do that to em haha

Any age with a driver's license can compete, but people under 18 have to have a minor release from filed in, once each year, which has to be signed by parents. It is a PDF that is available somewhere on this site:

http://www.odr-scca.org/

If you can't find it there, email the Greg Smith (his email is also on that site) and ask him for one.
