found something I'm interested in, now a little help..

So I have been searching around for an RX7 lately. My budget is 12.5k-13k and I am located in south jersey. I found something close to me, on ebay actually, so I was going to take a look. however I feel it is very overpriced and does not run. I'll post the link and then ask a couple of questions, hope you guys can maybe help..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/R-1-S...QQcmdZViewItem

-First, I can not assess the damage mechanical wise, so I would not be able to tell what would need to be done to make it mechanically sound. Does anyone know if there is a way to get the car looked at? maybe a reputable shop, or someone that would come out with me (to get a price)? I'm thinking possibly a rebuild espically because of the milage, but that could get expensive...

-Does anyone else think the price is a little high for a car that doesn't run? or is it just me?

-Do you guys think its really worth it for me to go check it out, or does it look a little too shady for your taste?

I appreciate your time for reading this thread and I hope someone can give me some quality advice, if not don't worry about it. Thanks guys.

Nick

Best case, it's a flooded engine and if you bring fresh plugs and unflood it you'll get it running. Then you spend $400 for a decent set of used turbos and you're on your merry way. You'll also want to bolt that ECU back in because it's not properly grounded just sitting there on the pass floor mat.

But I doubt it's that simple. Blown turbos don't cause power problems - they just smoke like nuts. This car might just have a boost leak, or it could have a blown engine. It's hard to say.

From my point of view you would be better off getting a car that runs so you can evaluate its condition better. Not running means there could be problems with the engine, trans, suspension, brakes, wheels, etc, etc..

I am sure you could find a nice car for your budget that runs well.

I agree with BillM on this one. This car looks great physically, but the fact it does not run makes it seem to me that it is priced too high. Buy a running FD. You can get a lot for your money, including a car that runs. BE PATIENT, I didn't and it has cost BIG.......

The owner is not selling only because of the bad turbos if you know what I mean. I agree with the other guys I would wait for something better.

you may want to consider cars outside your local area. I'm in Northern NJ and got a car from North Carolina. You can find some nice cars if your willing to travel.

Thanks for all of your replies guys. I wouldn't want to make a mistake that could put a big hole in my pocket. I appreciate all of the input, and I think I'm going to steer away from this one. Thank you.

try to get the price dropped, like Bimm said.. shop around. I found my 7 in Tennesse. The kid dropped the price over 4 grand cause he thought the engine was blown. Almost 2 years later of daily driving, I drove it to KD to get it street ported..ect. If you take care of your rotary, it will impress you with what it can do.
