Exclamation FL tourist broken down in NJ 10/8 @ 2pm!!

I am searching as we right now to help him..

DGnizer just called me looking for a Rotary mechanic around Elizabeth, NJ or exit 10 on your turnpike.
His FD is overheating, and it seems the radiator is cool to touch but the engine is hot, so no water is flowing??? I was thinking WP.

Any advice/mechanics in the area holla back. He is in need...

all the other places i know are in south jersey, if he somehow ends up by exit 4 off the tp i can help him. sounds like a stuck t-stat. if he knows his way around his fd all he needs to do is pull his thermo housing and check the t-stat. sucks is a monsoon here in the NE today

That is what he told me on the phone. He said it was raining cat & dogs, so he couldn't find a leak w/ his straight water mix.

if the rads cool to the touch eithers theirs no collant in the rad, or the thermo's sutck. unless he had a leak for a while, but the steam he would have built in the system would have had his temp gauge @ 220 for a while b4 it started showing alot of problems

Have him check the coolant system for coolant, like the other guys said. Also get that **** bled, there may be a lot of air pockets in there. Also check the t-stat, like the other guys said.

BEST OF LUCK!

Thanks for your response guys. I replaced the T stat and it wasn't it. I even took the whole thing out just to be sure. Now the car has to T-stat and still overheats. I was an adventure trying to get out of the NJ turnpike while overheating like a ****. Well after a few hours I'm back in Long Island and the car still overheats. I think its the water pump. I'll have it replace while I am in virginia. Hopefully she will be running again by the time I get back. I'll probablyu just ship her back though. Do you guys know any rx7 shops in Long Island?

DGnizer : I did not realize you took the t-stat out completely. I have read everywhere that it is bad, because the coolant doesn't have enough back pressure to slow it down and let it dissapate heat at the radiator/or pick up enough heat out of the cooling channels.
What alot of people do is cut the spring part of it of, basically gutting the thing so there is no valve left. This slows the coolant down enough for it to pick up heat and be effective, and it eliminates one thing when you have cooling gremlins.

Sorry it took too long to give you guys an update. I just got back from Quantico and I'm still waiting for my parts to come in on Monday afternoon. I hope the engine is not F+@#. I check the dip stick and there is no trace of water so I guesse thats good. The highest temp I saw on the PFC before shutting down was 122C. I started teh engine today and she runs ok except it keeps dying everyime I slow down. Raj, I just took of the spring and the valve but left the housing there. I'll be replacing the water pump as soon as I get it. hopefully that will fix it so I can drive back to Florida in no time. I'll miss hurricane Wilma so just give her my regartds ;-) Can anyone tell me where smokin joe's in long island is?
