FD: Friendly Test Drive? (NJ, PA, NY, MD)
FD: Friendly Test Drive? (NJ, PA, NY, MD)
I've been finding that my Mazdaspeed Miata just isn't doing it for me. I miss rotaries far too much. Going back to an RX-8 is tempting, but comparatively it's underpowered for it's weight (I don't think there is any argument on that point). I've been contemplating many different routes, and I'm pretty much thinking that what I really need to do is get an FD
I'd like to test drive one to solidfy that before I start the process, put my MSM up for sale, etc...
So.... anyone willing to let me test drive their FD?
I live in eastern PA, and commute to NYC a few times a week, crossing northern NJ along the way. I also make it to MD at least once a month. Zero problem coming to you.
I am a moderator over at RX8club.com (same screen name), and I've got substantial forum history available there if anyone is concerned about who I am. I'm open to questions as well, either here or PM.

That is exactly the line my brain has been contemplating. But, I'd be spending at least the price of a decent condition FD to make it happen and 1-2 years of effort, with a net result that it would only be maybe a couple hundred pounds lighter and far far less attractive. It really started begging the question: "Why not just get an FD?"

The other option that is along the lines of your idea that I have been considering, would be quicker, not really any cheaper, but quite unique. That option would be a Renesis powered Exocet (exomotive.com). ~200whp N/A rotary power band in a 1,400lb "car". The Renny's low torque wouldn't be a problem at all, the power to weight ratio would be spicy, and the fact that the subframes, suspension, and rolling gear is all from a Miata, parts and maintenance are cheap and easy to come by.
So I really just want to see how well the FD fits me, mentally, emotionally, and physically. I've never even sat in one, much less driven one, and I recognize my perceptions or opinions may be wildly off, and I would rather not find that out after buying one.
