DC Area Spring Meet/Drive 2021 - Covid Edition
Let's go! The FD needs a few driving mates. It's tired of being the lone best looking car on the road when it's out. It's been sitting covered for way too long and needs to chew pavement. Who's with me? Who's up for at least a meet - and possible drive? How about we meet at 9 am at the Gainesville IHOP as usual and shoot the S. Then drive through Shenandoah and hit up Two Fat Butchers or Splelunker's in Front Royal - or both to support the local economy. It's been too long. The only issue with this traditional plan is that Shenandoah can be overrun with the masses looking to get out and do something during this pandemic.
Here's some motivation. I finally swapped out the trademarked music for generic music for this video I had made:
Cut and paste coming up, courtesy of Rocky. You didn't think I'd start a thread did you? Only took 6 weeks after you wondered who's going to start a thread.
Here's the current planned route: (MAP) The trip is out to the Shenandoah, a cruise along Skyline Drive, then back to Old Bust Head.
As per our usual, we will be starting the trip at a breakfast establishment (IHOP @ 7495 Iron Bar Ln, Gainesville, VA 20155) for everyone who is interested to get some (take-out) grub (to eat in the parking lot). This gives us the opportunity to show up at more flexible times. If you want to eat, make sure you are there with enough time to get your bill taken care of before we leave the parking lot. Departure time will be 10am (to 11am), even if you aren't there for food make sure you are there EARLY. We'll be standing around chatting anyway and if you are late you run the risk of us leaving without you. Then you will have no other choice but to try and catch up to us.
Remember: These meets are more about the people then the cars. Having your car be down for service is part of owning an Rx-7. Feel free to show to the meeting spot and grab a ride along with someone else, or if you want to drive along with us in something else that is cool too.
Once you decide that you are in, vote for the dates you are interested in. Also, list your screen name and real name below so I can have a running tally of who is showing up.

I picked 6/6 so I have the most amount of time possible to reassemble my running gear and get my car back on the ground :P I'll put my name on the list when I finish up working on my car.

Thanks for letting me know Steve. That was a cut and paste from Rocky's old post so that map must have been taken down. Here's my link from 2013 that still works:
IHOP to Shenandoah to Old Bust Head MAP
Old Bust Head is typically optional at the end.

No problem, and the route looks good. I wonder if there is any new (aside from the ongoing, "typical") construction since you first plotted this in 2013?
Thanks for posting that route. Looks good!

I've driven out/through your way a few times, jl. The roads were always in pretty good shape each time I was out there. Now, I am born'n bred SW PA guy, so any roads are better that a Pennsylvania road!

Duc, way to step it up. I'll have to get some work done beforehand but I'm in.
You should have done a multiple vote poll though.
1. Zoolander (Duke)
2. Max_Spd (Vlad)
3. He's On Toroids (Rocky)

However, with not much interest so far, not sure we'll actually make the Shenandoah drive - maybe meet up and shoot the S and drive to a brewery or somewhere closer? We'll see. Up for any suggestions but let's definitely get together with our rotaries.

9 to 930 am?
Well, I guess I can blame the low interest on covid. It's going to hit 90 degrees on Sunday and I usually don't like to drive it in the heat but it should be okay in the morning. I don't think I'm going to take it through Shenandoah though. I also don't have AC - not like I would use it at the risk of overheating the car anyways.
Are you all still in for a morning meet?
I'm down to meet, we also have FB groups that most follow more than the forum, so I will post something there about this: https://www.facebook.com/groups/194794308567767
It'll give me a reason to get the car out and drive a bit. Although, I don't mind delaying to another day due to the heat.
Vlad doesn't mind 'cause he's probably showing up in some SUV with A/C
Wanna do a car show instead of the drive? Any early Sunday meets still happening?

My money is on the SUV with AC....I might just drive by his place tonight to see if he is cleaning it or he will be bringing a lot of dust with him to the meet as well
This will be my first time out the garage since Sept before the pandemic. My last time out was an autocross in Waldorf. Im down for a meet, show, whatever you guys decide.
I plan to bring chilled water, sweat towel and an extra shirt for the heat. Advil for the loud.

I think Cars and Coffee at Dulles Landing goes from 7-9, a bit early for me. Unless LaraS chimes in, I’d rather not change the venue from the Gainesville IHOP and potentially leave her high and dry. Let’s meet there as usual and go from there.
My FD has a pretty solid layer of dirt and pollen on it. The plan is to take it for a wash in the morning. We’ll see.
See y’all in the morning!
