Question can anyone give some advice or help teach an aspiring racer

hey my name is Mac from Maryland and i recently got my first car a 1988 RX7 GTU. then a friend got me into the local street/drag racing scene in my area and I'm now hooked only because I'm pretty good and won a few dollars. But i know very little about cars and racing and now i want to become a serious street/professional racer. So if there are any racers willing to work with and take a very passionate and enthusiastic guy under their wing pleas hit me up and help me out cause I'm way too serious about this.

first, street racing is not the way to go. the movies glorify it, but its really not what its cracked up to be. there is always the rush of knowing its illegal, but anything can happen at any given time; on coming traffic, pedestrians, mistakes made by your opponent, pretty much anything. i am sure there are dragways around MD. and at the dragway you can get numbers so on the street, you wont have to race, just let your time slip talk for you. if you are looking for auto cross action, look into the SCCA. you can meet a lot of enthusiastic racers through the club and learn a lot as well. im not trying to crush your F&F dreams, but after a childhood friend dies from a street racer hitting him head on, its kind of a great wake up call. id rather not here about losing another rx-7 owner or racer for that matter. but thats just my 2 cents, the choice is up to you. choose wisely, it could cost you your life.

besides...even if he DID drag it...there are like 4 strips within an hour and a half drive from Baltimore.

to the OP - there's an autox event at Ripken Stadium on the 17th. you should come out. i'll be there with my Subaru.

by the way my main focuse for this post was to see if there was anyone out there willing to help a 19 year old break into professional racing. i only talk about street racing cuz that where i got my start n sparked a want to race but trust me i quckly relized i would would be better off doing the pro/semi pro thing cuz the streets are way to risky. beside i get my thrill from going fast not doing something illegal

im just lookin out for you thats all. im sure youve got a good head on your shoulders. check out www.SCCA.com for more info on auto crossing or road racing. the scca sets up schools at local tracks with knowledgeable teachers to give you positive criticism. if you are looking for racing tips, (he might hate me for this) but Imp on the club knows a lot about racing and has helped me a lot in the past 2 times ive met him. good luck and enjoi
