Aussie Visiting Boston/MA

Hi,

I'll be in Boston in a couple weeks (for work) and will have a weekend to myself 27/28 Oct. I'm hiring a car and plan to take a drive, maybe to Montreal.

It will be my first time to the US - I'm excited. I was wondering if there will be any rotary meets or state level race meets etc around that time in MA?

Or any recommendations for a nice scenic route up north?

Cheers!

Unfortunately there aren't many rotary enthusiast or RX-7 meets throughout the year in Massachusetts. None that I know of at the end of the month.

There are some great driving roads in western Massachusetts that I have enjoyed. Check out this site. If you do this, definitely go through the center of Shutesbury. Possibly the best set off esses in Massachusetts, and you can see the exit perfectly from the entrance.

If you want to check out some of the best roads New England has to offer, head up to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. It's always fun even in the daily driver. I'm sure you'd enjoy it in a rental. If you head up north, check out the Kancamagus Highway (NH 112), Bear Notch Road off of the Kancamagus, and Hurricane Mountain Road off 16. I'll be up there with the fiance next week on vacation. I have a feeling I won't be having as much fun as usual when my friends and I get a condo to do nothing but drive all weekend, but it's always worth the trip regardless.

I don't know if my fiance is shooting a wedding the 26th or 27th, but if she is and I'm free, I'd be up for taking a cruise with you around central to western Massachusetts.

Cool, thanks for that. Would be great to hook up. Sounds like you blokes just need an excuse for a meet!

I'm thinking of heading directly north towards Montreal, through New Hampshire and Vermont (this route).

Is there just a lack of rotary owners in MA, or is it a New England thing? I wish I could bring my Series 8 along, but a Dodge Avenger "or similar" will have to suffice!

There aren't a lot of RX7's in New England probably due to the weather. We don't get a lot of time throughout the year with good enough weather to be bringing out a light weight RWD older vehicle.

If you're planning to drive up to Canada you'll see some beautiful roads anywhere north of MA.

So for tomorrow I've booked a B&B for a night in the White Mountains. I might drive towards Maine maybe and then come back across to NH and in the morning take a drive up to Mount Washington.

Been here a week and I saw one RX-8 in MA...! Loads of lowered civics though...

I'm sure you guys think this is normal, but I thought this was a cool sign, near Andover:

Welcome to Boston bloke lol if you are going to be up in New Hampshire already and want to check out some racing. New England Dragway in Epping NH has a test and tune session tomorrow from 8am to 5pm who knows might even see a rx7 there highly doubt it but you never know. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay here and dont worry too much about people beeping their horns at you if you take a second too long to go after the signal light turns green or if you drive too slow cuz you dont know where you're going. It's normal around here it's called "road rage"

You'll see a lot of Civics, Accords, Integras, etc in Northern MA near Lowell and Lawrence .... lots of rice up there.

You should notice a ton of WRX/STI and EVO's here as well.

Have fun in the White Mountains. Not the best time to be visiting New England with the supposed Frankenstorm - stay safe!

Yeah when I was driving back to Massachusetts the rain was already falling. Anyway I didn't get to drive up the Mt Washington Auto Road, which was the main attraction, because they'd closed it the week before!

But I did get to see the 24 Hours of LeMons! I've posted photos here:
https://picasaweb.google.com/1021287...HoursOfLemons#

These guys had some issues with their GSL-SE - I was wearing my Mazdatrix jacket and they thought I could help - everything I suggested they'd already checked, until they checked again! Fusible link strikes once more:

There were some hilarious cars there - my favourite was the boat-car.
