I think you'd probably be better off leaving it unless the unit is leaking. Don't all FDs come with ABS? You're going to have a hard time if they do: Probably need a different master cylinder, a few unions or new lines, and some sort of re-proportioning valve.
I tried it on my FC by just removing the unit and "T"ing the feed lines, But the result was scary soft brakes. Had to switch everything over.

I did the ABS bypass on my FC as you described and have never had any problems with soft/spongy brakes as long as I bled them properly.
Wound up switching everything over to Non-ABS setup (master cylinder, booster, new lines), and the problem went away. I dunno why, But maybe its hit or miss for some.
if you really want to, you could relocate the abs pump, running new lines to put the unit somewhere else. I've seen it done on a few other cars. They hide it under the fenders in some cases.

Kinda super easy, facing the master cylinder line closest to the resivoir goes to a proportioning valve and goes to the rears, out side one t's and heads to each one of the front brakes

I used to have a write up on nopistons.com pinned in the top of the 3rd gen forum. It's been a few years but it might still be there. It's a pretty easy mod as Kevin mentioned.
