Question about Carbing an S4

Hello Everyone!

I have been reading everything I can regarding what can be done with a N/A S4 Rx7 Fc. The idea of carbing it has really intrigued me. I have found a few kits for sale at the usual places but I have not been able to find any good build threads. I have searched this site up and down as well as google. No one mentions what sort of power they put down, or really the pros and cons of carbing. I have found the same problem with ITB set ups. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.

I used a Racing Beat 12A Holley manifold with an adaptor plate to mate it to a 4 port NA 13B. It ran a Holley 650 DP carb and stock S4 ECU running ignition. I left the stock tbs on the car to make everything work. It ran very well and made over 190 rwhp. Only issues were fuel slosh out of the breathing tubes in the carbs and poor fuel mileage, but the performance was very good. This was for a race application and maybe not street acceptable.

I came across some of yours posts actually, thanks for stopping by here! Does anyone have a link to a build thread or video? Or some general advice to someone who wants this street-able?

if only someone would make an aftermarket upper and lower intake for the s4 n/a then you would have the only benefit of a carb setup( more air flow) without any of the drivability drawbacks of a carb. all the easy starting/perfect idling of EFI. and the flow good for 200rwhp+
if only there was a surplus source of 13b-re manifolds. they flow.

Hi i have been running a carbed turbo 2 4 port with s4 na rotors in it. its in my SA22 rallycar for 2 seasons now. i have a large street port from pineapple and putting down 200 hp and 200 nm on the wheels.
I used the intake manifold from the old 4 port engine and had alloy welded 4 "ears" to the manifold becaus the 2 middle bolts will fit but the 4 corners is further out.
the reason im telling you this is because i believe converting the 6 port to a 4 port will make a more powerfull engine and just to give you some ideas.
My friend who is way better at tuning the carbs thn i am actually belive that with his help i could get 220 Hp on the wheels.

hope this makes sense english isnt my first language.

Hey,

I had a GSL-SE 13B 6 port EFI converted to CARB. Is your car a daily driver? If it is I would leave it EFI. Carburetor waste a lot of gas. But you will feel a good power gain if you go carb. When I carb'd my stock engine I felt a difference as soon as I drove the car and it made the car way more funner to drive. Im planning on going ITB EFI sometime next year I have also not been able to find a lot of info on ITB setups. Right now I have a 13b 6 port S5 street port semi pp with a 51mm Empi carb. I bearly got this setup built like 1 month ago so I have not dyno'ed it yet.

Check out Racing Beat Tech Tips. Click on the Weber link they have good info could kinda give you an idea of what to expect http://www.racingbeat.com/mazda/perf...lications.html
