Leaner does not equal better fuel economy! Leaner equals leaner. Higher BSFC at a given load/speed equals better fuel economy.

I'm finally getting the car to a point where it seems happy with everything and MPG is up.

LIM- How loud is your gilmer set up? I thought about it, but the noise doesn't appeal to me. I just want to spruce up the engine bay a bit and the idea of less slip on the water pump is nice.

Peejay-- any advice on getting some low rpm torque back? Since my manifold doesn't allow the use of the port actuators, that whole system is gone. This is definitely noticeable in the lower rpms. Above 4k the car whizzes through the revs.

I'm assuming there's really nothing I can do about that until I build a ported motor.

You could try gluing in some Atkins sleeves. You could even rotate them a bit to take out some of the late closing. It would be best scope out on a spare iron and the make some marks to keep a certain way when you glue them in. I guess the thing is, once they're in, you night not be able to get them out.

Distributor or electronic timing control? What are you running for timing, either way?

Sleeves are a possibility.

As for timing, electronically controlled by haltech e6x. I believe 29 degrees total advance. Pretty sure I posted maps a few pages back. If not I put them in the haltech forum.

The timing is the one thing I didn't really dick with, besides to bump up idle speed with added electronic load (fan/blower/lights)

Edit. Maps are on page 5

My gilmer is going on 3-4 years old now. Not as loud as you think, but you'll get prairie dog looks poking along in traffic, parking lots lol.

If you could machine a small grove around the the sleeve just in from the open end of the to take a small, like, 1mm dia o-ring, a dab of silicon sealer on the back might be good enough to hold it after set and have a good chance of removal if you don't like it or want try turning them to a different spot. The oring would add resistance to turning and keep the end from maybe vibrating the silicone loose until it gets gunked up.

Rotating and falling out place is a concern, lol.

Meh, the Gilmer noise isn't appealing to me when I have less than 200 to the wheels. I was hoping to pretty much silence it.

Maybe I'll send my stock pulleys off to be polished for some blang blang lol.

I know. I have another idea also. I don't think mechanically affixing it is probable with the engine in the car. You could use two o-rings front and back, knife edge the front with like a dremel or something, deburr, and then smear silicone around the front of the sleeve (they go in past the end of the port) like ramp up the ramp you made, This way, you might be able to dig it out before trying to pull the sleeve. The knife edge would help cut through.
