how to tell engine's strength (fairly new rebuild)

i have my rx7 fc and when i gave the car gass in gear the car pulled out, but not with the same power as my other 7's... so i changed the mass air flow sensor to see if it would help, but it didnt.. so im not sure if the compression is good or not any ideas what could be the cause to my lack of power? any suggestions for a good ignition setup also?

a compression test might be a good start. if that's good then you can move on to things like the TPS, timing, fuel filters, checking the exhaust backpressure etc etc
