Finally got the guts...
Finally got the guts...
Well, I took the carb off of the '82 two weeks ago..that's not to say I hadn't started taking the carb off 5 weeks ago, but that's another story. After talking to others and a little bit of research and encouragement, I have decided to do the rebuild myself.
I found yet another website that goes through a full description with pics of how to do the rebuild, best practices and tricks...along with the 33 page printout from SMW's how-to guide, and the DLC from Foxed.ca (thanx DivinDriver for the link)....I am now up for the challenge. Time to clear off the kitchen table (i don't eat there anyway) remove the computer from there, throw away the papers, and stack the magazines, then throw down a white table cloth (i'll buy a cheap one from Wally World).
Years down the road when someone asks me who did the rebuilding of the car, I want to be able to say I had a part in it!

Same person, different account (having redirection problems with the IAIS account).
Here's the pics so far!

They actually go in reverse order of how I put them in, so go to the first one, then back through it....that sounds right.

Got my main three parts...apart. Couple problems that I have added in another part of the forum for the Banjo Bolts on the Fuel Rail, but otherwise, all is going well, but slowly....don't wanna screw this up!

Weeeelllll... i was following another tutorial and tried to take out the primary venturis....found out after the fact that it is not a needed step in the rebuild process. Anywho, I eventually cracked both of them...one came out in 2 pieces, the other in 3 pieces; but am having another main body shipped to me to me from another memeber. Needless to say I shoulda just kept up with the SWM 'definitive' tutorial...lesson learned!
Ok, we will be back on track putting 'er back together this week, a little bit every night when I get home from work. I will attach a couple photos of each main piece right before I start so you can tell me what a terrific job I did of cleaning this thing, or how terrible I did with suggestions...lol. That will all start sometime after midnight tonite!
Well, I finally started it. It was a rough go, but after one vacuum hose and the something with the manual choke, I finally got it to run consistently. A couple turns of the idle screw and it was pretty well straightened out, but the carb still needs adjusting.
One of my major problems in considering starting the car was trying to find a fuel sending unit cuz for all practical purposes, mine didn't work. So while I had the tank out, I thought I should replace it. Well, I was wrong...it does work and I figured this out finally at 3 am this morning when I took 'er for a drive up the street to the local 7-11 and filled the tank.
Now we have another problem. When I stopped the car back in the garage, there was a puddle of gas under the car; fresh gas! I took a mirror and a flashlight and found out that the fuel sending unit, while it works, is allowing gas to push through the middle of it right where the resistor unit is mounted to the plate! Son of a bitch! It works, but it leaks;
and the tank is full
(well, it won't be in a couple of hours). Any suggestions?
