Cool Carbon Apex Seals

Who's used them who likes them, whats your story on them? Does anyone even run them anymore, has this become "old tech?"

Not looking to run boost but higher rpm power with the mass reduction compared to steel would be pretty nice.

and dont give me "THEY HAVE A SHORTER LIFESPAN" Nonsense because its a racecar - everything has a short life span.

ive used them a couple of times, basically in an engine that has rotor housings that aren't available at all, like a custom PP or the other was a huge bridge, and we wanted a one piece seal.

they are fragile, i got warned about detonation, and its not a turbo!

I have heard that the 2mm ones are just about worthless longevity-wise. This is compared to the 3mm seals which have a roughly 6 hour lifespan at revs.

Atkins ain't done me wrong, but I guess your duty cycle is a lot higher than mine nowadays. Is premixing legal in stage rally?

of course premix is legal! so far I'm on 5 rallies on this engine aside from the 4 years of rallycross, ice racing, track days. I may tear the engine down at the end of the season or build a new one and see how long this one lasts. Next rally is is in 3 weeks and it should keep together fine.

hoooraaaay N/A!

I'm not set on this path just investigating.

Didn't know if they were doing any kind of no fuel additives tomfoolery.

I had them in my street-ported 91 FC like... 15 years ago. They held up for several years, and I wasn't nice to that motor. It wasn't daily driven or anything though either. I probably wouldn't use them again personally.

FWIW - 6 hours was 6 hours of racing time - basically it broke down to something like four 20 minute races, a two hour enduro, and some qualifying/testing. That would be like a decade plus of drag racing on a regular basis...
