Ouch....got caught - 95 in a 55....

Well I got caught speeding (kind of excessive), 95 ina 55 on 25 North. Not sure of the fine, meeting in court on the 6th of July. Anyone get a ticket for this type of speed?

Story is I was driving along, just cruising and a 350Z came up on me, tailgating me a bit so (just playing) I sort of flexed my muscles and took off - just ahead got nailed instantly. My dumb mistake and KNOW I shouldn't have done it on 25 between 84th and 120th~!!!!!!

Hope the fine isn't too bad! I don;t have any other tickets so hopefully they'll go easy on me...

Tell the judge that you don't know how fast you were going (I hope you didn't admit your speed to the cop) and you were just keeping up with the flow of traffic.

i got popped doing 82 on i-25 for my first offense. i was 19 at the time and they knocked it down to 3 points, about 300$ fine (i had to clear a warrant with it) it all depends on your age, driving history, situation. your best bet is to tell the judge you were being stupid and he will be more leniant. but tell him something dumb like "i didnt realize how fast i was going" he'll nail your ***

It would be ignorant to admit guilt. Let the facts, or lack thereof, make the judge decide. However, chances are that you won't even get to say anything and the judge will just give you your fine.

I am not sure if you can do this in Colorado but every ticket I have gotten I have asked for a Deferred sentence. If you have not had any tickets recently they usually go for it. What it does is you only pay a portion of the fine and it is deferred and or taken off your record if you don't get any other tickets in the next 3- 6 months..

I would atleast see how it goes..Better then just pleading guilty and making an excuse.

Yeah, I did not really do anything but smile to the cop, which is the best way to ensure nothing else happens. I can ask for the readout on the Laser, sometimes if things are wrong it can be thrown out. Any fighting I will do will be in the court, my last ticket was like 4 years ago and I have a clean record, and I am a few months from 32 so I am not really in the crazy late teens/early 20's stage. I could care less about the money, I just don't want to have any driving privelage issues or excessive points!

well i live in alabama and i got a ticket for goin 101 in a 70...the cop wrote it up as reckless driving... i got very lucky and explained to the judge that i did not believe i was going that speed...well he lowered it down to speeding and is making me go to some driving school thing. i had to pay $113...now for the funny part. a few days after my court date i found out that the cop that gave me the ticket was fired...he refused to take a drug test....i was PISSED.. if i had pleaded not guilty and taken it to trial i could have gotten the whole thing dismissed.

my friend got a wreckless driving and ticket for not being "street legal" down here in pueblo. they lost the papers and let him off. ive heard alot of people tell me to ALWAYS plead not guilty and fight it becuase you have a good chance of the cop not showing up or something being lost. my dads friend has never paid a ticket in his life he said, becuase he alwyas got off. but that is down here in Pueblo. id plead not guilty, worst they can do is give u everything you would get for pleading guilty. you can still get the defferred ticket.

Thanks, normally I will plead guilty if they send me a nominal ticket and fee, just to get it off my plate. If they make me go to court (i.e. if I don't receive anything beforehand to pay off, and/or I do and it is not too excessive) I will definitely not plead guilty and do my best to reduce the potential fine/points. Hopefully the cop has a vacation planned!

Just alittle insight on the situation, I was an MP at Fort Carson and we enforce the same codes as State Patrol, CRS (Colorado Revised Statutes). As for showing the laser reading, don't count on it, they are not required to show the laser reading in the state of Colorado. If you are lucky enough to get it, 95% of the time they will have calibration records for the laser/radar. We had to do calibrations all the time and we kept them on record in case it was called to court. The lasers have a margin of error of + or - 1 mph depending on the angle he shot you from.

Your best bet is to go to court, rely on your good driving record and most likely they will offer you a plea bargin for the points but not the fine...hope this helps!

If you are going to court, you can ask when the laser was last calibrated. They are supposed to be done once per year or their accuracy can be questioned. At least, that is the way it used to be. Hope this helps.

I got an Idea for you. Take the Master Driver course if it's still in operation in CO Springs. Great coarse BTW. Get the certificate. When you go to court admit guilt because there is no excuse for speeding especially if it was a Laser gun the cop used. Tell the judge that you regret what you did and you have not had any tickets in a very long time and you wish not to have this extreme ticket on your record. Show her or him the certificate and say you have taken the initiative yourself to improve your driving skills specifically of this incident. Or something in that manner. Maybe you can think of something better to say. But I do recommend the course it helped me a lot.

^ I got a ticket in Va. A 78-45, which I was written up for reckless driving. I did something liek this.

I took a defensive driver couse and pleaded guilty to "speeding." I told him that I know what I did was wrong and I ahve tried to make my driving safer by taking the course. I said that considering the time, road conditions, weather, plae, etc I did not feel that I was driving recklessly, and felt I had complete control of my vehicle. He dropped the RD charge and just charged me for speeding which was still 491 buckaroos.

The shittest part was it was my birthday and the cop knew I was a Marine and still wrote me up for 78 ina 45. He could have at least wrote it for a little less, but everyone I ahve talked to said cops in Va beach area are pretty rough. O well lesson learned.

hm...i guess cops in big cities are a dick. those cops in my area where i reside is kind of laid back though. i get caught going downhill with 95 on 35 miles lane. apologise to the cops and told him that my speedometer is not working, get off without any points deducted and need to pay $250 fine.

Not a bad idea thanks for the thought. I hope they are OK with me, I think my record being clean speaks well and if I am sincere with the judge he will hopefully give me some credit there. I handle negotiations and business development for a living so hopefully I can use some of those skills in the courtroom!
