Yeah, this is my car; thanks for the compliment. I raced it in SCCA solo STS2 (now STS) in 2007 and CSP in 2008. I only raced it twice in 2009. I like it more as a daily driver than as an autocross car. If I race a RX-7 in solo again, I think I'd like it to be an AS FD (however an STR FC would be fun regionally as well).

OK there's someone in Rio that has an Rx-8 and a 2nd gen Rx-7 near my in-laws. I've been meaning to catch him when he's out working on his cars, but I haven't timed things right yet. Is that someone on the forums here? It's near Wyoming Autumn road.

Which means now I REALLY have to go meet him. I've been a fan of his cars for several years now. Perhaps he would have some insight on my transmission, I'm babying it atm.

The tranny is for a 1983 rx7. Mine is shaky right now and I'm planning on doing a rebuild or something like that shortly.

Hey Calculon, what special tools did you find were necessary for doing a tranny rebuild?

I haven't rebuilt one myself, but I don't believe that you'll need any special tools. That said, I think I might be able to get a TII tranny if you're interested. I'll ask my friend what he wants for it.

Thanks, but no thanks. I don't want to do that much in modifications. I'm sure I can find a tranny down at the Pull&Pay. Just gotta get down there with the tools and pull it.

Tranny rebuilds are no joke. Have you read the FSM? Mostly you'll need an assortment of pullers, and you'll probably have to fabricate your own puller for a few of the gears on the mainshaft. I read through the procedure twice and decided it was beyond my skill and time commitment. Apart from the pullers you'll need a dial indicator, and probably a set of feeler gauges. A micrometer wouldn't hurt either, but I'm not sure if it's necessary. If you've got the time and capability to keep everything organized without losing important pieces, then it is probably well worth the effort.

I've got a dial indicator and a micrometer set that I can lend you if you want to tackle this job. Also, if this is for your future SCCA RX-7, you can become a Mazdaspeed member now and save a lot on the synchros, seals, and various tidbits that you'll inevitably need to replace.

Yeah I briefed the FSM. I've got access to everything except the pullers.
It's more of a side project for me. Gotta get a spare tranny first. Like I said, Pull & Pay, just gotta go down there and pull one. No hurry yet, mine seems to be working ok for now. Just not sure how long it's going to last.
It's for my daily driver, but this could translate onto the SCCA car too. I think Steven is working on getting us into the mazdapeed program. Thanks for the info.

Is there anyone else from Roswell on here. I see at least 4 FB's in town and plenty of FC's.

Interesting .. I rarely see an FB here in the Abq area. I feel like I'm all alone sometimes .. sniff

But really, 4 FB's?

And I finally got my spare transmission. From the 84 SE that was at pull and pay. Now I can start tearing into my tranny and see what's what!!

I have an arctic silver 2nd gen, but not other cool cars, only an old Isuzu Impulse turbo. I'm off Southern though, not Abrazo. I hardly ever see any first gens around here.

gxl is currently in the shop getting the frame pulled. Once i get it back have a rear and front strut bar going in, new steering wheel and hub, and a short throw shifter with a razo **** for it! Then it's time to sand and the cars going to be painted white! Once she's done, it's time to tear apart the turboII and send the block for a rebuild and streetport. I need a raise! lol

Hey guys just moved here and looking at buying a house in Rio Rancho area. I got a black FD and a ae86 and my wife has a 89 turbo supra that is fast as hell but she blew the headgasket right before we moved here so I need to get into a house to fix it. I would like to know if you guys meet up or if there are any good rx 7 shops around the area. I don't need work done just parts to buy from, and who does the best dyno tuning around here for 7's. I do my own work and will help out as much as I can when you guys need help, so don't be afraid to ask but wait till I get into my house first.

Welcome to Rio! I live there as well. Not many 7 shops around here at the moment. Perhaps some of the tuner guys can point you in the right direction for that kind of stuff. Good Luck

Well my wife just ripped off my driverside door handle. Just wondering if someone has a extra for sale before I buy a new one.
