CO New guy here...

Hey everyone. I didn't see a thread for introductions, so I figured this is the best place to do that. My name's Dillon, I live in Littleton. Not currently an RX-7 owner, but I'm looking to buy. I met someone at Hamburger Stand in Lakewood last weekend, I think his name is James, and he has a red R1 FD...anyway we chatted for a while about RX7s and rotary engines, and ever since then, I've been considering selling my G35 and getting an FD as well as a more reliable daily driver. (I put up to 1500 miles a month on my car and I still have my concerns about FD reliability.) Sadly I haven't been able to find any good examples for sale...so I'm going to wait around until one comes up in the area. Anyway, just thought I'd say hello before I start posting, and let you guys know that there is another rotary fan in the area.

Haha, well, I've heard mixed things. Some people say that they CAN be reliable if you take care of them properly. What's your opinion on / experience with FDs?

And thanks for the tip off...I saw that car on craigslist today. I'd get it, but I really don't care for red Makes my search quite a bit harder, but eh...if I'm going to pay that much for a mid 90s sports car, might as well get one I'll really like. Still, that seems like a good price considering all that is done to it. I'll be in Pueblo for the NASA event this May, so if it's not sold by then I'll go look at it.

I don't really have much experience with FDs. I have two fc3s and a 77 cosmo. And they can be reliable, people just don't realize they're older and ***** going to go wrong with an older car whether it has pistons or not. I don't know if i would buy a fd for a daily driver but that's just me. Cars can always be repainted.

I'm a little out of it right now. So, sorry if this post doesn't make much sense. heh.

Nah, it made sense. But as I said in my first post, the FD wouldn't be a daily driver. And yes, cars can be repainted, but it'd be nice not to have to pay another few grand on top of the purchase price, in addition to weeks (or even months) worth of not being able to drive the car.

By the way, is there any kind of local RX-7 club in CO? I'm interested in meeting local owners.

Ah, ****. Totally read your post wrong. That's what i get for skimming.
Anyway, I thought only chics went for cars over their colors. jk jk ;]
A few people in northern Colorado have met up. I'm hoping we'll have another mini meet soon, but who knows. Mike B does get some groups together, but i've never gone.

Haha, yeah, I guess I'm strange, color is important to me. I'm considering getting that red one but there are other things I don't like about it...wheels are gross, and so are the headlights. Obviously those things can be changed, but I'd rather build my own car than fix somebody else's build. Anyway I did PM Mike B. I've actually chatted with him a few times before about RX-7s at the Sonic meetups (96th and Federal on Friday nights---usually tons of rice but also some good cars).

I wouldn't buy a car that you really don't want. Colors car be changed if you want to go that way. Wheels and headlights are easy to change. It is geting hard to find these cars in stock form so you may be changing stuff either way.

You will have to refresh my memory to who you are. I met a lot of people that day. The Rotary is a very reliable engine if you take care of it. However, I wouldn't make it your daily driver because of inevitable wear and tear and gas concerns. It is my daily driver, but the only places I drive are school and what not. I put all of 80 miles on it last week doing my normal daily stuff...so my "daily driver FD" comes with a stipulation.

Good to see I interested you in RX-7s though. Best street car you can get.

I have a gray G35 coupe if that helps. I went on the cruise with you guys that night. Anyway, I think I've found an FD for me. The only problem is that I can't really test it before buying it...no shops in the area that it's in know about rotary engines. However it's in fantastic condition and hasn't been beat up on, so I think it'll be alright. But yeah, it won't be my daily driver...as I was saying that night, I drive up to 1500 miles a month, and I wouldn't think about putting that kind of mileage on an FD. So no worries...I'll just plan on rebuilding the engine and maybe getting new turbos. By the way, James, will you be up in Denver again any time soon? Since I can't test drive any FDs for sale (there are none in Denver) I'd like to ride in your car...or drive it, if you will let me...anyone I know will tell you that I'm a good driver, but I'll sign a waiver or something if you're worried

We'll see. I live in Lakewood, so being in denver is never really a problem. My car is going to speed image on thursday for about a week. It is getting a new intercooler, pully, G35R turbo, Power FC w/commander, Ignition Amplifier and a fuel system all installed. You should show up to the rotary meeting on May 18th. I will be there for that.

Ah, Speed Image. Moe is a great guy, I didn't know he worked on rotarys. I guess what you're having done isn't necessarily specific to the 13B though. And I asked about coming up to Denver because your location says colorado springs Anyway, I'd like to come out to the rotary meet on the 18th, but I'll be in Pueblo that weekend for the NASA event. The event usually ends around around 5 to 6 though and I usually get back around 7, so I'll come out Hamburger Stand that night.

What's up guys! Check out www.milehighrotaryclub.com for info on the yahoo group too. Where is this car you might be buying? My fd was reliable until I went over 400hp. I also beat mine up pretty hard!

Well, the one I posted about earlier was in Salt Lake City, but it sold before I could get to it. Now I'm looking at a car in North Carolina. It's this one:

http://charlotte.craigslist.org/car/641373553.html

I have family in Virginia that I was planning on visiting for Memorial Day, so I'm thinking I'll fly out there, drive the car back, and pray nothing goes wrong on the way. It's about a 1700 mile drive if I remember right. The car seems to be well tuned, but I'll have to re-tune it for the altitude, plus it has no cat or air pump so I'm going to have to fix that if I want to pass emissions. Who all up here tunes FDs??

Edit: Videos of it--
