I wouldn't do it. I'd err on the side of being careful. When in doubt, keep race gas in it; that is what gives you the leeway at the moment.

BDC,

My question for you is that I want to be ready in every possible way for the tuning session and to be honest with you since I have changed everything out from my old setup, how the hell do I determine if everything is working properly or installed properly without being able to get into boost at all?? I have way too much fuel in the system obviously since I was pig rich with 850cc injectors all the way around, a new turbo and basically all new supporting mods... Any suggestions on how I can do a test to make sure everything will be ready for me to be tuned? Since I finished the car about 2 weeks ago, I went above 4k rpm's one time, I saw 5 psi on the boost gauge, but if I went any higher in the rpms when the secondaries came online, it just felt like it wanted to fall flat on it's face, and I hope this is attributed to there being too much fuel when they come on. I put the secondaries in when I still had my non-seq when I first started my new mods and same thing when I got into boost it fell flat on it's face...is this common when you drop that big of injectors in the system and aren't tuned or adjusted for it? Sorry if I'm rambling but I've done $10k in mods in the past 2 months and a whole new setup and just really no way to make sure everything is 100% ready for tuning... Anyway, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...can't wait to meet you and see what my new setup can do...

I cut this out of my original post that had my setup and goals...

BDC, are you able to email mpfcc my map to help him at least get down to Denver? His mods are very similar. Also, we were thinking the week of May 8th - 13th would be the best time to come out unless that doesn't work for anyone. How many days are you planning on being here? Are you driving or flying?

It sounds to me it just needs a new map made concerning the change of secondaries and no change on the map (it'd require practically a different map). Does it drive currently out of boost? If it does, you ought to be able to get it to the get together pretty easily. If it's a real pain to even get it driving, then give me a PM on it.

Hi Guys sorry I have been out of pocket for a few days traveling, I am definitely in for the tune here is my set-up for your reference. My main goals are increased power & reliability. I don't race but enjoy spirited driving and an occasional run at Bandimere....I currently have:

1993 Touring Edition, 58k miles, original engine/motor, catback, downpipe, Apexi Intake, Power FC & Datalogit (I have not installed the Power FC yet, having my fuel filter and new plugs etc. done before I install)

Not sure if there is anything else you need please let me know, looking forward to the tune! Regards, Jon

Yes, good, considering I haven't purchased one yet (and honestly have a problem spending $350 on an electronics box that is probably only $20 in Radio Shack parts) ...

Jon, what turbos are on the car?

I have been doing some homework on this over the last few days, I have a few more questions? Now BDC, what is the best possible result I can expect from tuning my set-up? I have stock twins(still seq), I have Intake, Med SMIC, High Flow cat, WB02 and PFC. Now what do you think given the elevation I can expect out of this tune. How much boost is safe and why. I am hearing that it may not be worth it to tune my set-up for only 13lbs of boost, I am confused now. Is this going to be worth me driving almost two hours to the springs(if I want to get up on the GB) and spending the time to only tune for 3lbs of boost higher? I hope you guys see my concern. I have been told that an HKS twinpower would reap more benefits for me under the circumstances. So I need a little more info on if this is worth $400.00 + in performance to me. Everyone else has a different turbo running and can play with it. I cannot. So please enlighten me on this? We just had a baby and money needs to be spent wisely. I hope you guys understand where I am coming from. Thanx

Hey there,

What to expect.. the car will be pretty quick. No doubt about it. Much of the modifications that are done on a car like ours hinges on the turbo since the turbo is what is primarily responsible for overall power output. In this case, since you're still using the stock twins,

The truth about boost -- it's becoming more and more evident to me that the standard quo of running "15psi on pump gas" is too dangerous of a standard to try and hit when it comes to the reliability of the gas that's used. Granted, you guys are ~5400ft up with air that's 75% as dense as it is down here where I'm at and even though that will help significantly, the same rules still apply. We're pushing our cars too hard expecting to have reliability consistently with that kind of boost. You guys can probably get away with it better than we can down here at sea level. So, when it comes to what I do when I go out of town, I raise the issue regarding this reliability and such due to liability reasons: I don't want to be blamed for "blowing up someone's engine" due to circumstances that are way, way out of my control. I feel comfortable tuning up to 10-11psi of boost on just about any car, but past that point I make it an issue to clear it with the vehicle owner to go for more boost and loads only if they understand the potential risk involved. So, Sonix, that's where I am coming from on all of this. I won't necessarily just flat-out stop at some mid-level boost and say, "I'm done", but I will explain the potential risk to you and anybody else involved. I hope that clears it up for ya.

One more thing ... as far as the ignition hardware is concerned.... if you're sticking with the stock twins, don't bother spending the money on that ignition thing.

Thanx BDC, yeah I fully understand your position. I am going to eventually go to the BNR stage 3 twins and stop. You know about my gas mixture for safety. Also I don't drive my car like most do. I still pretend it is new!! I mean it was in mint show room condition when I bought it, so I guess thats the way I act. I love my car and consider it to be precious and treat it like I never want to loose it. I know that sounds corny, but I am sure you guys understand. I have accumaulated 4500 miles in two years. I rarely drive the car (mostly because of winter and reliability mods), but when I do, if I pull up to that Z06(all ten of them on a sunny day) I want to know that I got a little something, feel me? So with that said, in my certain case would it be stupid to tune for more boost? Should I just wait and do the better turbo set-up and then get tuned. Base map for now? Brian I super appreciate your understanding and help, once I get a good idea of what really needs to happen I will feel better. How much can the stock turbos take as far as boost? what do you mean by reliable, meaning if I push it hard one day there they blow? Or overall abuse on the turbos? Man I just want to make sure it's worth your time and my money to tune this set-up or wait, thanx!! BDC no matter what you are a good guy, I appreciate it.

You really should read what you type first! And if you call running a 12.3 beating the **** out out of it.......then my mom probably never felt a thing! LOL

I will let Ryan respond to it himself....however working for CarToys they are very strict about working on side jobs. You may have to take the car down to 6th and Broadway in Denver.

Oh he still works there? ok, i just need help with half of it, I have it partially installed and just got overwhelmed with the wiring and relays, so was going to go there anyway, but didn't want to trust it to some regular guy in town. I wanted someone that knows better about the FD. I would probably just take it to him there as long as he is doing it and no one else. God I am so ****, its just that people don't care about other peoples **** these days. I will give a jingle tommorrow.

In some cases some ppl don't care about their own ****...I am still at the 6th and Broadway store. You can call me at the store 3.813.1090, or get ahold of Mike and I'm sure we can make acquaintance in some form. I will say that it would be easier to do at the store, plus you'd get a full cartoys install warranty on whatever I install. Not that you'll need it!
