MoTeC Motec

Close but not complete, I have always run a combination of Petrol and Methanol(alcohol), as my fuel systems(seperate systems). It takes quiet a bit of messing to get the correct ammounts and as they are seperately injected, also require seperate mapping. The combination theoretically takes advantage of the volitility of fuel while giving you the long combustion burn/ high octane/temp benefits of alcohol. I have found that I can make better power over far greater rpm using the combination. Dont think it hurts reliability either. Using Petrol also seems to reduce the load of high chamber pressure on ignition systems rather than alcohol.

I personally think that it is good that a lot of the Australian tuners are on these forums now The more the merrier Hopefully we can at least keep things civil though
I know you guys are merrily discussing 20Bs but getting back to Soul's original question
It will run your 2 rotor fine! Yes it will handle split trailing ignition (with the ability to vary it depending upon rpm and load!) I have a Motec M4pro controlling my 13BT and it does the job very well. You will find the datalogging capabilities of a Motec M800 excellent, and the support for the ECU is good. The other nice thing is that they are software upgradeable (flash rom) so if/when Motec makes revisions to the functionality of the ECU (eg. modifying the traction control system, modifying the anti-lag system, adding new functionality etc.) then you can upgrade your ECU via a simple download! There are many other great functions of the Motec too. E-mail me at a777@fastrotor.com if you like, Soul.
Rice, in case you are unaware, Archie (Mazfix) often sets up high power street cars with Methonal enrichment. This allows them to run more boost (20+psi) on pump fuel and the methanol gets activated when above a certain boost level and is controlled by the ECU.

i am looking into getting a m800, anyone use one of these? i know it is better than fcon v pro but how much are these things worth? can't find to many specs about them on motecs website. i know it will run a 3 rotor so i am under the impression it will run a 2 rotor. any inputs would be nice

a777,
That system was set up by me when archie had problems with cars he was doing o/s that could not get the good octane fuel. We were at the time using nos fogger nozzles and solonoids, only switching it on and off relative to boost. Although he will probably claim that to be his development, that system came straight of the Rx3, when Avgas was the go!

A friend back in Hawaii run Autronic equipment.  He's been trying to get me to mess with Autronics stuff for a long time.
Electromotive - I've messed with several on them on Hondas, but not on a rotary.
Like I said, very limited with those units.

I don't want to start any flame wars here, but I was speaking with a reputable rotary tuner about an EMS and he steered me toward Motec when I mentioned Haltech.
I like the Haltech because of its widespread use in the rotary crowd. But what he said to me, basically, was 'look at all the professional race teams and notice that none of them run Haltech and they all run Motec'. I know they don't ALL run Motec, but all of the professional rotary cars that I've watched do (road course race teams, not drag racers).
So, I have to ask, can this be easily explained?
And, a separate question, I believe it was Rice Racer who said that the Autronic system was as good as Motec. Do you have a lot of experience with both? Would you care to qualify this statement or do you really view them as pretty much equivalent? I don't race professionally, I will be running regional events this year and am stuck on my EMS selection.
Thanks.

Seriously, MoTeC dealers will always push their products; I guess the same can be said for all the other EMS stuff out there - just look at all the Microtech dealers pushing the Microtech units on here.
MoTeC does cost more.  Usually, more expesive means better.  The MoTeC runs one of the fastest datalogging systems (1kHz) in the industry.  The MoTeC is chock full of extras; extras is usually the differences between the stand-alone EMS brands, when it comes right down to it.
What is comes down to is how well your tuner can use a particular EMS unit.  A crappy tuned MoTeC is not going to touch a finely tuned Microtech.  Any number of EMS brands will run fine - just be sure you get the best support possible.  I cannot stress this enough - you don't want to be in a position where you run into problems, and you (or your tuner) have no clue how to fix it - support is KEY in running any of these EMS units.
All these EMS brands can go off on how better their systems are, especially when it comes down to a spec show-off.  Don't be fooled by "big numbers" and fast processors.  You stock ECU runs off a 8-bit or 16-bit uP that probably doesn't run over 10MHz or clock speed - it doesn't take THAT much computing power to run an engine.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
The only unit they state for rotaries is the SM2, only because it has the ability to run split T&L timming, I do not run the split hence I use the SMC, I have used the SMC on 4 other rotaries that I have done for other people with no problem, I have been running this ECU for over 5 years, I find it realy good.
It does not have as many features as the MOTEC but it is the closest thing you will get for quite a bit less, there support through some of their distrubutors sucks **** ! which is a real shame because the things you can do with the unit and the software that drives it are bloody great for the money, In Australia the SMC is around $2000 Aus for a unit that will even tune it's self with the an Autronic EGA (wideband) I love em , shame about some of the people who distribute them.
I would almost say to you that the Autronic is great if you are a stand alone freak like me who can do all your own stuff as there is little support for the product, you do get a full proffessional result and features that are superb value for mony, but unless you have some local support it can be very challenging indeed.
