WoW, just Wow, may have to figure a way to get down there.

t_g_farrell 12-20-10 11:43 AM

I'll be doing this again this year. I'll be parked in my usual spot at RA. Ray knows
where to find me :)

Also, it sounds like maybe the some DGRR folks may drop down on Sunday to swell
the rx7 ranks, or rotary anyway. This may turn out to be quite the event this year.

ray green 01-01-11 04:44 PM

So what's the deal on the DGRR folks, they gonna' stop down on Sunday?

rxtasy3 01-01-11 04:53 PM

last i read on the rcc site there were several planning on dropping by on sun.

Attila the Fun 01-02-11 05:39 PM

When will tickets go on sale?

ray green 01-18-11 07:01 PM

Here's a post I stole from another thread, by speedturn. He really gives you a great sense of Road Atlanta and what it means for the Mazdas to be out in force this year:

"This year will be my 15th Mitty, and I will again race my blue #79 RX-7 against the 3 liter Porsches in the IMSA GTU class. I stopped by the turn 3,4 area and met some of y'all last year; I was riding my sh!tty pit bike, it was red with a blue milk crate on it. Come by the paddock area and visit me and check out my peripheral ported road racer 1979 RX-7.

Here is the full promo that was emailed to me:

The Classic Motorsports Mitty, the South’s premier vintage race, returns to Road Atlanta for 2011 with its signature blend of classic racers on-track as well as a full menu of infield activities thanks to the GRM Speedfest at the Mitty.

This year’s event, which is set for April 28 - May 1, will have an added appeal for fans of the Japanese race cars that first dominated the racing scene in the 1970s: Mazda will be the featured marque. The grand marshal will be none other than Jim Downing, the famed Mazda racing driver and co-inventor of the Hans Device. Jim will be on hand throughout the weekend to check out the action.

Featuring a Japanese marque may seem like a bold move for a top-tier vintage event, where British, Italian and German manufacturers are more commonly celebrated, but it’s typical of the Classic Motorsports Mitty, a true enthusiast event. And Mazda is more than deserving of the honor, thanks to their own racing history as well as their relentless support of sports car competition for more than 30 years. Expect to see a great historic sports and racing car display from the automaker at Road Atlanta, along with a huge turnout from the Mazda car club community.

“We are thrilled to be involved as the featured marque at this year’s Mitty,” said Jim Jordan, alternative marketing manager for Mazda North American Operations, “and are working hard to present the best that Mazda has to offer from the past and present.”

Mazda will also be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their historic win at LeMans in the Mazda 787b piloted by Bertrand Gachot, Johnny Herbert and Volker Wiedler. This marked the first time that a team/manufacturer that was not from the European continent won Le Mans. The Mazda 787b was also the first car to win Le Mans with a Wankel rotary engine. Look for some impressive displays in the Mazda historic racing show area commemorating this landmark victory.

Along with the rare and important Mazda race cars, you’ll also see the varied assortment of cars at this year’s Mitty that people have come to expect from the event. In addition to the Triumphs, MGs, Porsches and many others that will be found circling the track, the infield will be home to marque-specific car corrals with examples from just about every manufacturer who has ever built a sports car.

Other attractions at the 2011 Classic Motorsports Mitty include the Kumho autocross, where spectators will have the chance to drive a Kumho-equipped Mazda MX-5 around our infield autocross course, manufacturer ride and drive programs, and the ongoing tradition of the Moss Motors pub, where spectators can come by for a cold drink, challenge a friend to a game of darts, or take a spin around our slot-car track.

The sponsors of this year’s Classic Motorsports Mitty include Mazda, Kumho Tire, Moss Motors, Flyin’ Miata, Tire Rack, DIYAutotune.com, G-Force Racing Gear, Hella, The Cayman Interseries, www.wirewheel.com http://cts.vresp.com/c/?MotorsportMa...9f9/1af073027b , Stand 21, Louis Chevrolet Watch Co., Speedcom Communications, Traqmate GPS Data Acquisition, Race-cars.com http://cts.vresp.com/c/?MotorsportMa...9f9/fb9e1b63a3 and Klub Sport Challenge.

With all this in store, the 2011 Classic Motorsports Mitty looks to be the best one ever, so plan to be at Road Atlanta April 28 - May 1. Check out www.themitty.com http://cts.vresp.com/c/?MotorsportMa...9f9/7cefa20420 for more information today."

I'll be pitching my tent at Camp Tim this year (see post 6, above). Bring your SA or FB over and join the 12A count with the rest of us OGTA's.

And if you can get a chance to run some parade laps at Road Atlanta, DO IT! Even keeping at the parade limit of 60 mph (or so) cruising around that course is a blast.

Here's the White One down by the Mazda sign a few summers ago:

Jibaro 12A 01-18-11 08:49 PM

Dave you need to go to this if you can. Mazda is going to have a large car corral at this event as well. I will be bring my SA.

ray green 01-19-11 09:45 PM

It would be really cool if Dave makes it down. You other guys too!

t_g_farrell 01-20-11 09:33 AM

Private RX7 corral over at the campsite on turns 3,4, and 5 too.

Homemade beer and hard cider as well. Plus bbq and ear plugs :)

I hope speedturn drops in again on his scooter. We should all walk down to
the paddock and visit his 12a PP so Ray can hear it up close.

I'm showing up early Friday morning or Thursday night this time so I can spend all
day Friday watching folks come in.

Oh yeah, and tickets are on sale now!

t_g_farrell 01-21-11 09:18 AM

Hey mazdaverx713b (Dave right?) I see on another forum that theres some Ohio
folks making their way down there and that they may even be working the course.
Maybe you can hook up with them?

It would be good if Dave shows up. As an Officer of the Law, he can help keep us out of trouble.

And here I thought you were talking to this Dave not that one..

ray green 01-21-11 07:10 PM

Hey, the more Dave's the better. There's another Dave coming from NC (BigIslandSevens). He says it'll be the FD this time, since he burned up the FB.

https://i259.photobucket.com/albums/...green/9-10.jpg

Come on down Dave!

SilverEIGHT 01-22-11 12:43 AM

Will see you guys there. No way I will miss this one. I live about 15 miles from the track and the a Mitty is a required event for me. Especially this year with the possibility of the 787B.

RotoricanNY 01-22-11 12:46 AM

What I would give to go!!

Kentetsu 01-22-11 04:44 AM

Damn. Maybe I'll have to drive down from DGRR for a day to check this out. Never been to one before (Mitty), and don't know a whole lot about it (yet)...

.

RXeckless 01-22-11 05:21 AM

Myself, IAN and Scottish from the Ontario Canada DGRR contingent will be driving down on Sunday. Hope for a great turn-out. By the way tickets are on sale now:
