WOOHOO, my first '7!!!!

This black '87 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II is now mine! It was previously owned by dlight87. Sorry the pics aren't great, it was getting dark and the flash didn't work well either (the last pic is with the flash). It's not perfect, but it should be great fun to learn and work on, and, of course, to drive! Even a year older than my dd, it handles and rides so much smoother, and the exhaust tones are just incredible. It has a hot-start issue and as far as we can tell low compression, but I think it should run for a while before needing a rebuild if I'm relatively nice to it and give it what it wants. I'm psyched. Oh yeah, the smoking is from lubing the chambers with some motor oil, it stopped after a few minutes.

mods, if you could change the first post to this it'd be much appreciated. I got too excited and posted huge pictures.

Here are some more pics. I got it started up over lunch after a couple unflooding attempts. I hope I get some time to work on it tonight...

My babies!

I HAS A ROTARY

The previous previous owner treated this car like crap and apparently liked to drink and drive. The previous owner dropped quite a bit of money into it to try and bring it back. This is the result of a nasty but mysterious sideswipe and the PO replaced the fender. Eventually I hope to pull the panels, fill, and repaint, especially with the metal being more vulnerable as it is.

So my dad blew the main fuse on it tonight and I was looking up the part online and noticed those fuses seem to be polarized... I've never heard of such a thing, but that means very little. Which way do I need to install the fuse? Should I just make it so the fuse reads on top the same way as the other fuses or does orientation even matter with the big fuses?

good find. out of curiosity, does it always smoke like that? as for fuses, im not sure, ive also never heard of a polarized fuse and dont think the orientation really matters, but just to be safe (and for asthetics) make it match the rest of them

Thanks! and no, hehe, it only smoked because I put some motor oil into the chambers as is recommended for motors that have apparently flooded, that stopped after a few minutes. aside from smelling a little rich, the exhaust has been really really clean and free of smoke even before we put oil through the chambers.

I have noticed is smokes a little on startup if it's been flooded and I had to make several attempts at starting it, but that's the only time. Should I be concerned about that? I'm guessing not since I figure it's just from excess fuel, but I thought I'd ask.

Also, lol, they gave me about the best set of default plates I could get:

No, actually. Why? And I didn't find it particularly funny that this door will be a PITA to fix.

Well that's the plan. I can do it while still sitting behind the wheel, it's just a little tricky to get the relay plugged back in. A switch would make it much easier.
