Wheels and Wings Cruise - Sept 9th (MN to WI)

The annual Wheels and Wings show is going to be on Sept 9th again this year in Osceola, WI. The show itself is pretty diverse and there were tons of pretty interesting things at last year's, including quite a new NRR rotaries.

We'll be meeting at the Home Depot parking lot in Woodbury, MN (in Tamarack Village off of Radio Drive and 94) then leaving at 7am sharp for Osceola. It talks ~45 minutes to get there and it's a nice ride.

You don' t have to enter the show if you don't want to, but you get a cool little metal plate and we get to pimp ze rotary.

* here's some pictures from last year's event: http://urizenproject.netfirms.com/ga...s.php?album=31

FYI - the show is FREE for those of you concerned about cost.

I will also be bringing along the NRR club engine compression tester for those of you who would like the opportunity to see how your engine is doing.

sounds fun. How would you register to enter the car show, or do you register when you arrive in WI.

There's no registration. Show up and you get a free bag full of goodies including the plaque and show paperwork to put in the windshield for the judges to reference.

This is one of the reasons it's such a fun show to go to every year as you get to see just about everything and there's no requirement other than showing up.

Well my fd's body is pretty beat up but the engine at least looks good now. I will clean her up as best as possible and will see you up there.

Do you have the tester? I know Andy deK emailed me asking about it and I sent him your way. I need to get it sometime soon to test a few cars of my own.

Let me know.

Yes, I got it back from the shop when I went to MRR and brought it to that event. After next week I have no more commitments with it. Did you want to meet at the show or after on Sat/Sun (9/10)? I am extremely busy after the W&W show due to work/personal stuff all the way until Nov.

I might attend this event. About how many RX-7s are going from Woodbury and about how many cars are in this show??

Thanx,

Ken

The show has hundreds of cars. Everything from classics to ferraris and what not. Usually there is a few of us driving over together, I think we had four cars last year.

We usually have between 4-8 rx-7's every year. The cars are grouped by type so you have 'vettes, rotaries, Datson/Z-crowd, ferrari/lambo, Lotus, NSX, muscle car group, motorcycles of all types, the british crowd, oldies (20-50's models), etc.

I'd estimate there are around 500 vehicles there at any moment but people come and go as they please since it's a free show. Plus there is the local airfield so you can go and see some airplanes and helicopters if that interests you as well.

It's at the street address. When you're going up the road after turning right out of town it's on the left, the airshow is on the right.

Here's the "fun" directions on how to get there:
- I-94 east to Exit 4 in Wisconsin (look for TA truck stop)
- Go north on Hwy 12 at Exit 4
- Turn Left on County Road A (about 2 miles north from exit)
- Cross RR tracks and follow through a little town with a Co-Op gas station (can't remember the name anymore)
- Just after the town turn Left on County Road I (eye). This is about a 1 mile windy stretch that is a lot of fun (but don't go fast if you haven't driven it before or you could easily crash)
- Stop at stop sign (County E crosses here) and continue north on Cty I
- When in Summerset, turn Right at stop light intersection
- Go across bridge and turn Left at next stop light intersection which is Hwy 35 North to Osceola
- Follow this until you see an air field on the right and you will proceed down the hill in town.
- Just before the RR bridge over the road is where you turn right (last road before bridge)
- Continue and entrance to show will be on the left side with signs. Turn Left and at the end of this road (1/4 mile) will be a T-intersection. Turn Left here and there will be show workers handing you bags of goodies. Follow their direction and enjoy

Depending upon where you are coming from in the cities you can also take your favorite route to Summerset, go east through Summerset, and then turn North on Hwy 35 (left at Dairy Queen intersection) to Osceola. Follow the bottom half of my above directions for where to turn as I don't have an address but you won't need one, there's plenty of signs, etc.

I have no idea what Urizen is talking about and in fact, reading his post is confusing me and I've been there for the past 8 years!!!

Your directions are great. Trouble is my car gets lousy MPG and I can't afford all those miles it would cost me on that trip. I'll meet you there in the morning. It's 42 miles from my home and that will cost me more than I wanted to pay.

I'll be at this free car show on Sunday the 10th.

www.straightupstreet.com

It's 12 miles from my home.

Thanx,

Ken

Heh, don't worry about it, my FC has started to really slip into beater status itself (all those slalom cones are starting to take their toll .)

One of my friends followed last year in a stock model Toyota Matrix to carry more people and the drinks and they ended up flagging him in, lol.

Ken, how much fuel does that beast eat now?

Well, 2 out of the 5 of us that caravaned together were finalists in the show in two different catagories no less, "japanese" and "sport compact". As I didn't stay much later after the judging stopped I will have to wait and find out whether either one of us won

Overall, there were 4 1st gens, 2-TII's and 3FC's total, and Luv94 suprised us by showing up with his beautiful black FD.

I took over 100 pics at Wheels and Wings. If you would like me to e-mail them to you just give me your e-mail address and I'll send then to you. I'm not going to post them here as they are not RX-7 related.

Thanx,

Ken
