they are definitely not legal based on the 25 year rule.
owner didn't divulge how he got the car here but it was his sixth rx7! so he is a true nut that probably went to extreme lengths.

There has been some talk about owning a car in Canada as a business and driving it in the US for business purposes. Don't know how that would work. Also Superstreet had an article once saying 15 year old cars could be brought in from Canada after being legally imported from Japan Probably their 2015 "Japan" issue. Don't take my word for it.
There are a bunch of pictures of that Spirit R under the Community/Pictures tab above.
That MUST BE the one I was following on a Japanese car importing site. Same color, condition, everything. I stalked that car for months while it was for sale. went cheap too for about $20K. had very low miles. I was so tempted to buy but wife vetoed it. You can import special edition/limited edition cars from Japan to get around the 25 year rule. this one was one of only 1200 i think...
Mazda RX-7 Type A Spirit R, 2002, used for sale take a look at the post before it sold. I should have bought it!!!! was on the site for months before it sold, was listed for just under $20K before import fees.
