RX7 owners in Chicago
Hey
I was wondering (for all those that live in or near chicago, or atleast similar weather) how an RX7 is in the rain and snow? Is it easy to control or is it not good for a daily driveR?
Reason im asking is because im looking to buy an RX7 but use it as a DD, not sure if this is the right thing to do so im asking owners
any comments or tips are appreciated
thanks,
Konrad

They handle like any other rear wheel drive car in the snow, but why would you? It happened to me once by accident but will not again. These cars are too nice to see them end up a pile of rust.

I haven't driven my 7 in the snow, but I drive my rear wheel drive truck all year round, including snow. Its an auto, and sometimes when i pick my foot up off the brake at a stop, the tires will start spinning without me touchng the gas. you just need to know how to drive in the snow.
That being said, I don't know how the 7 is in the snow, nor if you'd want to have to drive it during the winter.

I drove my FC in the snow. Twice. Both times because it surprised me (home in Chicagoland for Thanksgiving, it snowed, two years in a row - I learned & started taking a Subaru home for Thanksgiving).
The best that I'll say is that it's doable. It will move, under it's own power, in a mostly controllable fashion, in a few inches of snow.
Beyond that, it sucks. Especially around Chicago, traffic is all snarled up in the snow, and running the headlights/wipers/defroster/AC compressor/rear defroster/etc is far more than the alternator puts out at idle. It's difficult to get moving on a hill, and generally is a very, very non-enjoyable experience. I highly don't suggest it.
My suggestion would be a 4WD/AWD Subaru with Blizzaks. "Snow? What snow? Oooooh... that sheet of ice I'm driving on with 2 inches of powder. Yea, it doesn't bother me."

if you have driving skills, you shouldnt have any trouble.
can/have you driven without incident in the snow with a high powered RWD car?
if you have then you are fine. if not, then get a beater, and try no to kill yourself

I've driven it in the rain. Yes, you can get into trouble easily if you aren't expecting it. As impact said, good tires are your friends. Logic would suggest that you don't have summer tires on in the winter.

I drove an FC year-round for five years with no problems. handles like any other RWD. That being said, if you gotta ask, you dont need to do it. If you never driven in snow period you need to be extremely careful and respectful of the road. Worse than the snow is when black ice forms... But anyway, the good thing is Chicago is good for only a handfulof significant accumulations of snow per winter and the streets are cleaned out relatively quickly.
Good luck!!!
Good luck!!!
