Yes sir. I was pulled over once and had to take the pig to my house to show him that I did indeed own a semi-domesticated feline. Nah, I've never had one look, but then my car's not that loud, and still has a cat, for now. Maybe one could fabricate a straight pipe with a "shell" around it that looks like it's a converter... I live in Kansas, but have never seen or heard of any real numbers as far as dB limits other than at sanctioned racing events. It's probably on paper somewhere, but is probably more of a "I saw you going too fast"/"I heard your car too loud" pig thing. You know they have laser eyes...

I've never had a cop ask about my exhaust, not even saying it was too loud. My 88 TII I had back in the day was relatively loud with a 2.5" with nothing else.

Ive gotten fix it tickets for loud exhaust. I just tell them that theres a big leak in front of the muffler. Never had a cop ask if I had a cat converter. Im sure if you need to ask its most likely too loud legally.

If they can hear it in there car with the windows up. Its a fix it ticket. If you have an open exhaust and a flame coming out the tailpipe that will get you pulled over as well. Ask me how I know.

Well you take a Viper and remove all the exhaust replace it with small glass packs, headers, and 3.5" exhaust then add a supercharger and a vec3. Next you do 60mph in first gear getting on the interstate and shift into 2nd with a MN statie behind you.
I guess you could do it with a rotary too.

its a half bridge with a 4 inch exhaust... it wasnt so loud before it was tuned and running on 1 rotor at times. now... 2 rotors strong....and 18 psi its way to loud. i drove past an accident on the highway and 5 cops literally stopped what tehy were doing and watched me pass. Im fine with it being loud when im on the gas but at cruise im woried about to much undesired attention. i guess it is time for a cat and 3 mufflers

Mines a HBP as well with a 4" single exhaust and I know what you are saying. I was stopped for the excessive noise at Idel and every time I shifted on my PFC base map it would throw a little blue flame out the tailpipe if I was over 3k. Long story short I was sighted for the loud exhaust and he wanted to know if I need a tow becouse my engine sounded funny.
You could try adding a second muffler or a baffel for street driving.

Those really wont help. They make very little diffrents on open headers. If you want to quiet it down your going to have to restrict the exhaust some how.

the dna guy said it would help quiet down the lower frequency tones which are what is really loud in my setup.

If that method does not work i will have to use a more restrictive setup with a bypass that opens under boost. Maybe a straight 4" pipe with an epexi exhaust control valve in it that i can open or close as a choose and a bypass around the valve with 2.5" muffler. Either that i am going to run 3" cat and a 3" muffler and let that join into my 4" rear section and recirulate the wastegate into that section. Yes, im keeping my 4" rear section b.c i like how it looks
