New 7 Owner in Twin Cities Area

I'd like to just poke my nose in and introduce myself. I'm sure I'll be an active member the more I work on my newly acquired '85 RX7 GS. I am new not only to the RX7 but to the Rotary world and vehicle maintenance in general. I have had a lot of questions over the past couple of weeks but these forums have helped greatly in answering them. I do still have questions that I cannot seem to find the answer to but before boring everyone with a repost, I'm going to continue to search for the answer here.

Thanks for great forums and thanks in advance for advice and support I'm sure I'll receive in the near future.

-Jesse-

Good luck with all of that. I'm around the Wayzata area, if you have a question, ask it.

Any suggestions for a good shop to get some nice wheels around the Twin Cities? Looking for something nice for day to day driving. Once I get the wheels i'll worry about the tires.

Your new GS wouldn't happen to be red would it? There was one I was very close to buying locally, but lost it at the last second. Welcome, and also feel free to click on the link in my sig to check out the local rotary club.

Welcome aboard. I live in Saint Louis Park. You will have to swing by sometime and see my 84 GSL SE with a transplanted Turbo II.

My advice is just read, read, read. Do searches, check the archives, etc. If it can happen to an RX 7, it already has and someone has asked the question.

Mschafe, I will check out the local rotary club for sure. I'm sure this isn't the same GS you were looking at. I got mine from a co-worker and it unless the one you were looking at was red at one time and painted an ugly *** color of green over it, it's not the same.

Beep777, Been reading and reading and reading (i hate reading), will continue to so that I will eventually get the most out of my 7.

I've got a long ways to go before it's where I want it to be but currently I'm working on getting it painted, redoing the interior, and getting the motor to work better than slow as sheet. I've done a tune-up, from what I can tell, everything is pretty much stock. Something still isn't right because I would be happy with a 2 minute 1/4 mile. 0-60 in 14 se....wait, minutes just doesn't do it for me, I have a lot of work to do. (yeah, bending the truth a bit) Either way, the body needs work, the interior needs work and the engine needs work. Don't get me wrong, it runs and gets me from point A to point B but I'm looking for more!

Nope.. not the same one. Oh well, i've been looking for a last year FB to replace my '83. Someday. You definately need a tune up. Best thing you can do to that car is get an RB header or full exhaust, and an intake like a Mikuni, Holley, or Weber. You'll have PLENTY of power. I seriously could not believe the difference. Although my 12A is coming out this weekend, and a 13b is going in.

Just picked up another '85 7. This one is manual and the paint job and interior a cleaner than the 1st one I bought. Going to use the 1st as a parts car.

The new one is 99.9% stock. The first thing I want to do is put a sound system into it. Anyone have any ideas for a decent setup without breaking the bank. Gotta keep some cash for the new carb, header, exhaust, intake, etc...

You got ANOTHER one? Where are you finding these? I maybe see another 1st gen once every few months on the road, and hardly any for sale. I do know of one black '85 for sale, but its not what i'm looking for.

I found this one down in Jordon, MN. It's a GS. Found it on carsoup actually. Guess the dealership had it for a day or so before I picked it up. They seem to go very quick. I won't be so embarrased to show this one at a gathering. :p

Don't think I'll be picking up any more. My driveway is packed as it is.
