Need some help... Importing

I live in Illinois and am looking for a T2. I would prefer s5 T2 from japan( low milage, cars are pretty well maintained.) and i was woudndering what I would have to do to legalize it in the U.S. I know that people have probably tried this before and I dont know if it is possible. All I know is the only difference between the U.S spec T2 and the Japanese spec T2 is the RHD LHD factor. If anyone has information on what needs to be done to legalize please let me know. I figured it would be easier to import an older rx7 rather then the FD. I am hoping to import one after spring. I would apreciate helpful information, I dont want any flaming please. If you have anything bad to say please PM. Dont post it here.

Thanks.

I lived in Japan for 4 years and looked into importing one of my cars. At the time (early 90's) I would have had to get new glass and reinforce the frame and doors etc. The Japanese do not have the same requirements that we do here in the States. If this is still the case, you can't even get the car out of port until it is made street legal by our standards. In the end, it would have cost me approx $3k just to get it out of port. That doesn't include shipping or any licensing here. Good luck.
